Indonesia has played a significant role in driving the growth of the digital economy in the ASEAN region. With a population of over 270 million, Indonesia has the largest economy in Southeast Asia and is a key player in the region's digital transformation. The country's digital economy is projected to reach $133 billion by 2025, accounting for 11% of the country's GDP.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder Indonesia chairmanship, ASEAN-BAC aims to take Indonesia to lead the digital transformation and financial inclusion in the ASEAN region to improve connectivity and financial inclusion for MSMEs throughout the ASEAN region,\u201d said Arsjad.<\/p>\n
ASEAN-BAC Promotes QR Code Implementation throughout the region<\/strong><\/p>\n The ASEAN QR Code initiative aims to connect the national QR codes of payments between countries, enabling people to purchase goods and services throughout the region seamlessly with local currency settlement.<\/p>\n \u201cCurrently, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand are connected, while Singapore is linked to Malaysia and Thailand. In addition, central banks from five ASEAN member states have signed an MoU to integrate payments between countries. This initiative is in line with the ASEAN Agreement on Economic Commerce and is a priority agenda for Indonesia,\u201d said Pandu Sjahrir, ASEAN-BAC Legacy Lead of ASEAN QR Code.<\/p>\n For ASEAN and its member countries, the ASEAN QR Code will strengthen the economic bloc, promote the digital economy, drive greater financial inclusion, and facilitate higher volumes of cross-border transitions especially for MSMEs.<\/p>\n \u201cASEAN QR Code will facilitate cross-border payments, making it easier for MSMEs to expand their customer base and reach new markets in the region. By reducing transaction costs and foreign exchange risks, this initiative will unlock new opportunities for businesses and contribute to the growth of the digital economy in the ASEAN region.\" Yohanes Lukiman, ASEAN-BAC Policy Manager for Digital Transformation.<\/p>\n Apart from the QR Code, ASEAN-BAC Presents Two Other Initiative Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n In addition to the QR Code, two digital initiative programs, namely Wiki Entrepreneur and Marketplace Lending Platform have been launched to strengthen digital initiatives in order to increase financial and market inclusion for MSMEs.<\/p>\n Wiki Entrepreneur is a national platform that has been expanded to become an ASEAN-wide platform for supporting the growth of MSMEs. This platform will serve as a hub for large corporations to market their products and for MSMEs to access the resources they need to grow, contributing to a stronger economy in the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n Wiki Entrepreneur is a central hub for large corporations and organizations to market their SME support programs to SMEs in the region,\" said Aldi Haryopratomo, ASEAN-BAC Legacy Lead for Wiki Entrepreneur. He also said that there are thousands of existing programs, such as the inclusive closed loop ones, where MSMEs are given access to training, financing, and offtaking. The platform hopes to increase SMEs participation in the supply chain throughout the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n The digital economy in the ASEAN region has grown rapidly in recent years due to rising internet penetration, e-commerce adoption, and innovation.
