Arsjad Rasjid as the Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) provides full support for the government's electric vehicle incentive program.<\/p>\n
Arsjad hopes that the realization of giving incentives for electric cars and buses can be carried out soon, after previously the electric motorbike incentives had been implemented. These incentives will accelerate electrification and desire energy transition targets.<\/p>\n
Previously, the government had issued incentive policies for consumers and industrial players for electric motorbikes. This was well received by Arsjad Rasjid. \"This incentive program is a testament to the commitment of the Government of Indonesia which will soon fully adopt the use of electric vehicles as well as become a giant in the electric vehicle industry,\" said Arsjad.<\/p>\n
Through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 55 of 2019 concerning the Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicle (KBL) Program for Road Transportation, the Government of Indonesia is targeting the adoption of electric vehicles up to 2 million units by 2025. Through this Presidential Decree, incentives will be sought for all layers of society to be able to buy electric vehicles in the form of cars or motorbikes.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Electric Vehicle Adoption Needs to be Increased<\/p>\n
Compared to neighboring countries in the ASEAN region such as Thailand and Malaysia, Indonesia is still lagging behind in terms of adopting electric vehicles. According to McKinsey research in 2021, Thailand has succeeded in obtaining a proportion of electric vehicle adoption of 0.7% and Malaysia of 0.3%. Meanwhile, Indonesia has only been able to adopt electric vehicles by 0.1%.<\/p>\n
The delay in the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia is due to the relatively high price for people to switch from non-electric vehicles to electric vehicles. As for neighboring countries such as Thailand and Malaysia, there are various incentives that can encourage their people to adopt electric vehicles. For this reason, various incentives have been issued that can help the community and the ecosystem of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia develop more quickly.<\/p>\n
Electric Vehicle Incentives Become Indonesia's Game-Changer for the Electric Vehicle Industry<\/p>\n
\"This incentive program policy is the most appropriate, because with this change, Indonesia will be very attractive to various electric vehicle manufacturers who were previously more interested in Thailand and Malaysia. This step is Indonesia's game-changer for the electric vehicle industry,\" said Arsjad.<\/p>\n
For consumers, the government has provided assistance in the form of a discount of IDR 7 million for the purchase of a new electric motorbike through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and a conversion electric motorbike through the Ministry of Industry. This assistance will be valid for two years, from 2023 to 2024, and only for 1 million new electric motorbikes and conversions.<\/p>\n
For electric vehicle industry players, there are fiscal incentives that are given, namely, a tax holiday up to 20 years, a super deduction up to 300 percent for development and research, exemption from VAT for mining goods including nickel ore as raw material for making batteries, exemption from VAT on imports and revenue capital goods in the form of machinery and factory equipment for the motor vehicle industry, and PPNBM for domestic electric cars as well as the Ministry of Industry's program of 0% compared to 15% for non-electric PPNBM vehicles.<\/p>\n
In addition, import fees for cars or Incompletely Knock Down (IKD) and Completely Knock Down (CKD) import duties will also be eliminated through the cooperation of FPI and CEPA including Korea and China. Finally, regional taxes are in the form of a reduction in motorized vehicle transfer fees (BBN) and motor vehicle taxes (PKB) by 90%. Cumulatively, these incentives will amount to 32% of the selling price for electric cars and 18% for the selling price of electric motorbikes over the estimated usage rights.<\/p>\n
Arsjad Rasjid Brings the Agenda for the Acceleration of Electric Vehicles and Development of the EV and Battery Industry to ASEAN. Arsjad Rasjid as Chair of ASEAN-BAC said that accelerating the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia is in line with one of the priority issues of ASEAN-BAC related to sustainable development.<\/p>\n
\"We have conducted roadshows to various countries in the ASEAN region such as Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, all of them saying that industrial decarbonization, some of which is through the use of electric vehicles as well as the electric vehicle and battery manufacturing industry, we need to continue to develop,\" said Arsjad.<\/p>\n
To support industrial decarbonization, the ASEAN Net Zero Hub and Carbon Center of Excellence have been established to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and best practices on industrial decarbonization and enable carbon mechanisms and progress across the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n
