The ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) and Jetro (Japan External Trade Organization) are working together to encourage acceleration in achieving climate change action targets.<\/p>\n
This was marked by the signing of the MoU by the Chair of the ASEAN BAC who is also the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Arsjad Rasjid with the Chair of Jetro, Ishiguro Norihiko in the series of Opening of the ASEAN Japan Business Week 2023 (AJBW 2023), Monday (05\/06\/2023).<\/p>\n
Muhammad Yusrizki, as the person in charge of the ASEAN Net Zero Hub said, the MoU was initiated by ASEAN BAC as one of the 'legacy programs' in 2023.<\/p>\n
\"The MoU is intended to accelerate the transition process for companies in ASEAN to assist Japanese companies in achieving their Climate Change Action targets,\" said Yusrizki.<\/p>\n
Yusrizki explained, Japan is the main business and economic partner for the ASEAN region, especially Indonesia. Climate change which has become a global challenge be one of the main issue for Japan and ASEAN in building their collaboration towards a low carbon ASEAN region.<\/p>\n
\"Sustainability and Net Zero are the only pathways for ASEAN to continue to grow and become an economic power going forward in the midst of economic disruption due to climate change,\" said Yusrizki.<\/p>\n
\"All countries in ASEAN must collaborate to build a Net Zero Emission (NZE) Ecosystem in this region to be able to make all companies in ASEAN start their journey to become Net Zero Companies, this is the significance of establishing the ASEAN Net Zero Hub (NZH), continued Yusrizki.<\/p>\n
Yusrizki assured, the MoU between ASEAN BAC and Jetro is not only about cooperation in creating a knowledge center for ASEAN companies. The collaboration will also take concrete steps in the industrial decarbonization process, in particular by providing assistance to companies in making credible transition plans and introducing low-carbon technologies such as energy efficiency and new renewable energy (EBT).<\/p>\n
Apart from that, continued Yusrizki, the two institutions also agreed to develop network research and development as well as 'business matching' between Japanese companies and companies from every ASEAN country.<\/p>\n
Still with the spirit of the theme \"ASEAN Matter: Epicentrum of Growth\", it is hoped that the presence of this MoU will be followed by other ASEAN partner countries, such as the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, China and others. With this step, ASEAN will remain the center of world growth amidst the dynamics of climate change, which the business world will also respond to.<\/p>\n
Without an ASEAN region that is 'climate resilience', Yusrizki believes that ASEAN's goal of becoming an \"Epicentrum of Growth\" will be difficult to realize. This is because many countries and economic regions in the world have already moved in that direction, for example the European Union with its trade policy called the \"Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)\" sooner or later will have a significant impact on exports from the ASEAN region to the European Union.<\/p>\n
\"If we still want ASEAN to continue trading with the region or its partner countries in the future, then business actors in ASEAN must move in the same direction, namely Net Zero Emissions,\" said Yusrizki.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Yusrizki believes that countries and economic regions that implement low-carbon trade policies should not only set limits on the amount of emissions on each product or service they enter or import, but also need to collaborate with ASEAN to form a transition plan towards Net Zero and also its supporting ecosystem.<\/p>\n
\"This is so that ASEAN companies have the opportunity to compete in this low-carbon economy. Carbon emissions have indeed become a new competitive factor in today's business and economic world,\" further explained Yusrizki, who also heads Kadin Net Zero Hub (NZH).<\/p>\n
With the ASEAN Net Zero Hub, it is hoped that every ASEAN country can make the Kadin NZH a reference for how the NZH 'country platform' works to build the NZE ecosystem in every ASEAN country.<\/p>\n
