In 2025, Java Island continued to play a dominant role in Indonesia\u2019s economy, contributing 56.93 percent. It was followed by Sumatra (22.22 percent), Kalimantan (8.12 percent), Sulawesi (7.22 percent), Bali and Nusa Tenggara (2.82 percent), and Maluku and Papua (2.69 percent).<\/p>

Spatially, Indonesia\u2019s economy in 2025 recorded growth across all regional groups of provinces. The Sulawesi region posted the highest growth (C-to-C) at 6.23 percent, followed by Java (5.30 percent), Bali and Nusa Tenggara (4.87 percent), Sumatra (4.81 percent), and Kalimantan (4.79 percent).\n\nMeanwhile, the Maluku and Papua region recorded the lowest growth at 1.44 percent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Spatially, the structure of Indonesia\u2019s economy in the second quarter of 2024 was dominated by the group of provinces on the island of Java, contributing 57.04 percent to the national GDP; followed by Sumatra at 22.08 percent, Kalimantan at 8.18 percent, Sulawesi at 7.16 percent, Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 2.84 percent, and Maluku and Papua at 2.70 percent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Indonesia\u2019s economy in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023 (year-on-year), recorded positive growth across all provinces. The group of provinces in Maluku and Papua experienced the highest growth at 8.45 percent, followed by Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 6.84 percent, Sulawesi at 6.07 percent, Kalimantan at 5.22 percent, Java at 4.92 percent, and Sumatra at 4.48 percent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During the first quarter of 2024, the provincial group on Java Island still showed its spatial influence in the Indonesian economy by recording a role of 57.70 percent despite experiencing a slowdown in growth of 4.84 percent compared to the first quarter of 2023 (y-on-y).<\/span><\/p>

Spatially, the three groups of provinces with the highest economic growth are Maluku & Papua, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. Economic growth in the three regions was mainly driven by mining activities, the metal industry, and the construction of IKN.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Spatially, Indonesia\u2019s economic structure in 2023 was still largely driven by Java Island, contributing 57.05 percent, followed by Sumatra at 22.01 percent, Kalimantan at 8.49 percent, Sulawesi at 7.10 percent, Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 2.77 percent, and Maluku and Papua at 2.58 percent.\n\nMeanwhile, economic growth performance in 2023 across all island groups remained favorable despite global economic headwinds. Cumulatively (C-to-C), the highest growth was recorded in the Maluku and Papua region at 6.94 percent, followed by Sulawesi at 6.37 percent, Kalimantan at 5.43 percent, Java at 4.96 percent, and Sumatra at 4.69 percent. The Bali and Nusa Tenggara region recorded growth of 4.00 percent (C-to-C).<\/span><\/p>

In terms of growth and contribution of GRDP by region, Java Island contributed 57.12 per cent to the Indonesian economy with a growth of 4.83 per cent (y-on-y).<\/span><\/p>

The economy in Quarter 3-2023 of Sulawesi, and Maluku & Papua grew above the national economic growth.<\/span><\/p>

The economic growth of Sulawesi island came from Processing Industry, Mining and Quarrying, and Trade. Meanwhile, the economic growth of Maluku and Papua is sourced from Mining and Quarrying, Processing Industry, and Trade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP)<\/strong><\/p>

The group of provinces in Java Island continued to shape Indonesia\u2019s economic structure spatially in 2022, contributing 56.48 percent, followed by Sumatra at 22.04 percent, Kalimantan at 9.23 percent, Sulawesi at 7.03 percent, Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 2.72 percent, and Maluku and Papua at 2.50 percent.<\/p>

In 2022, economic growth across all island groups remained favorable despite global geopolitical pressures, supported by increased community activity during the COVID-19 period.\n\nCumulatively (C-to-C), the highest growth was recorded in the Maluku and Papua region at 8.65 percent, followed by Sulawesi at 7.05 percent, Java at 5.31 percent, Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 5.08 percent, and Kalimantan at 4.94 percent.
