Kadin Indonesia-UK Collaboration Towards a Greener Future

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) signed a grant agreement with the British Embassy on strengthening cooperation in achieving zero emissions and promoting sustainable development. The signing took place on 30 April 2024 at Menara Kadin Indonesia.

Through the event, it is expected to trigger the identification of potential areas for collaboration and investment in the green industry, as well as strengthen relationships and networks among stakeholders committed to advancing the Race to Zero agenda.

Climate change issue is a global crisis which need collective efforts. In alignment with the global imperative to combat climate change and the shared commitment to the Race to Net Zero, the United Kingdom (UK) and Indonesia are strong partners in addressing environmental challenges. Both countries are committed to robust climate change targets and become leaders in delivering a healthier, fairer, resilient world.

In order to achieve the climate targets, businesses play a crucial role due to its significant influence on global emissions, resource consumption, and innovation. Market forces drive companies towards more efficient delivery models. The private sector is also often able to leverage the best possible expertise and technology. Private sector solutions are often more durable as they are profit-making. Additionally, the private sector is able to rapidly scale up activities by entering in partnerships and through swift access to finance.

Overall, Indonesian business associations like Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) have a unique opportunity to mobilize their members and drive collective action towards a more sustainable and resilient future. As the biggest business association in Indonesia, Kadin can leverage their influence, expertise, and resources to advancing climate solutions and promoting sustainable development across sectors.

In response to the growing demand for responsible business practices in face of the climate crisis, Kadin established the Sustainability Task Force in 2022. Under this initiative, Kadin promotes work towards net-zero emissions and advocates for renewable energy, electric mobility, carbon markets, and regenerative forest management.

The UK government has been a strong partner and supporter to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). The UK government has been supporting Kadin in setting up Kadin Regenerative Forestry Business Hub (RFBH), a one-stop-shop for addressing the challenges facing forest businesses in achieving the ambition of the new Omnibus Law and Multi-use Forestry Regulation. Its overarching objective is to equip forestry businesses in Indonesia with the knowledge, interest, and incentives needed to implement regenerative forest practices. Kadin RFBH’s vision is to support Indonesia’s regenerative forestry businesses to contribute to the country’s social, economic and ecological development, including the country’s forestry and NDC goals.
