Certificate of Origin

Certificate of Origin (COO) is a document that serves as proof that the exported goods in a shipment were acquired, produced, or processed entirely in a specific country. COOs may be requested by customs administrations, importers, freight forwarders, or banks for letter of credit purposes. The issuance of COOs is an important function for chambers of commerce as many countries view them as credible organizations and require them to authenticate documents with their seal or stamp.

There are two types of Certificate of Origin (CoO):

  1. Preferential COO
This type of COO is a requirement for obtaining preferences included in certain export goods to receive facilities such as exemption of all or part of the import duty given by a destination country/group of countries.
  2. Non-Preferential COO
This is a type of COO document that serves as a supervision document and/or accompanying document for the origin of export goods to enter a particular country's territory.
