Universitas Islam Indonesia Collaborates with Kadin to Explore Vocational and Apprenticeship Cooperation

The Ministry of Education and Culture launched an education programme at the higher education level, namely Kampus Merdeka Belajar in 2020. This programme aims to give more power to universities in managing their study programmes, as well as providing flexibility for students to study and develop themselves outside their study programmes.

Kadin Indonesia's Vocational and Certification Division received an audience from the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta (4/5/2024). The audience was received directly by Vice Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Vocational and Certification Adi Mahfudz WH, Chairman of the Vocational Education Committee Wisnu Wibowo, and Vice Chairman of the Education Committee Dendi Pratama. From Universitas Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta, the Dean, Prof Dr Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum, Head of Department, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Staff, Yusri Fahmanto, S.E. were present.

Budi Agus, Dean of FH UII explained that for the Independent Learning Campus programme, there are 2 (two) models, namely lectures and non-lectures. The first lecture model is practitioner sharing, where Kadin can participate as a guest lecturer who can share special competency experiences. The second lecture model is legal practice, where students can assist the industry in legal matters, which is assessed at 20 credits. The apprenticeship is carried out in a period of 1.5 - 2 months with a weight of 2 credits. For non-lecture methods, independent studies are conducted.

In addition, FH UII also collaborates with the Global Diaspora of Migrant Activists, and is preparing legals for migrant workers. In the near future, legal counselling will be held related to legal understanding of activists in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

FH UII is also planning an advocacy school and ethics clinic. The expected student output from the Kampus Merdeka Belajar programme is how to build legal actors with integrity who can support the industry.

Adi Mahfudz WH, WKU Vocational and Certification responded that he would continue the conversation about the Kampus Merdeka Belajar programme that is in-line with the industry to the Chairman of Kadin. Adi added that the issue of Migrant Workers is indeed very crucial, and requires proper handling and legal basis. Kadin, which has collaborated with 27 state polytechnics and 17 universities, also facilitates the sending of internships abroad, and the provision of training for migrant workers.

Wisnu Wibowo, Chairperson of the Vocational Education Committee, said that it is necessary to explore the occupational map and SKKNI for legal education, so that teaching is in accordance with the competencies required for industrial certification. Creating an apprenticeship model that is in accordance with the industrial area is also very important in creating competent graduates. It is also emphasized that apprenticeships are carried out not only to large companies, but to MSMEs which the Ministry is trying to encourage.

Kadin Indonesia hopes that the Independent Learning Campus Policy can produce graduates who are more prepared and relevant to industry needs, and are able to become the nation's future leaders who are superior and have personality.
