Kadin Indonesia Inaugurates Renovation of 500 Uninhabitable Homes in Jakarta

Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) officially launched a program to renovate 500 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (April 15, 2025).

The inauguration was conducted in collaboration with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, and Vice Chairman of the Budha Tzu Chi Foundation, Sugianto Kusuma.

This initiative is part of "Gotong Royong Kadin Indonesia Renovasi RTLH #RumahSehatNegaraKuat", a cross-sectoral collaboration aimed at improving housing conditions for underprivileged communities—without relying on state budget (APBN), regional budget (APBD), or funding from state-owned enterprises (BUMN).

Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, stated that the renovation program follows a series of site visits and assessments previously conducted by Kadin.

“Today marks the result of those visits. We are starting with the renovation of 500 homes—200 in Jakarta, with the rest distributed across West Java, Banten, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Bangka Belitung,” said Anindya, commonly known as Anin.

He emphasized that the program goes beyond physical repairs and also addresses essential health and structural aspects, including sanitation, clean water access, and housing resilience.

Kadin Indonesia is engaging its members across various sectors—including private companies, state-owned enterprises, cooperatives, and MSMEs—in the implementation of the program.

“We want to show that Kadin is not only active in trade and investment policy, but also present on the ground, directly engaging with communities,” he said.

“While awaiting government programs, we want to lead by example. This is proof that mutual cooperation (gotong royong) can be a powerful force,” Anin added.

Also present at the launch, Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait—commonly known as Ara—stressed the importance of building people’s homes through collective effort without relying on state funds.

“Today, the Budha Tzu Chi Foundation and Kadin Indonesia are building homes without APBN, without APBD, without funding from state or regional-owned enterprises. Let us build the people’s homes with no bureaucracy—just transparency and urgency,” said Ara.

He also noted that this initiative reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to provide decent housing through teamwork and joint efforts.

“I have reported this to the President, and he sends his respects and hopes that this initiative evolves into a national movement,” Ara said.

Anin further explained that the housing renovation is one of Kadin Indonesia’s four Quick Wins in the lead-up to Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2025.

The other three programs are Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), Free Health Checkups (PKG), and support for Indonesian migrant workers.

As part of the coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, a special allocation of 200 housing units in Jakarta was approved, due to its proximity to Kadin Indonesia’s central operations.

The full renovation distribution includes 200 homes in Jakarta, 100 in West Java, 100 in Banten, 50 in Bangka Belitung, and 50 in NTT.

To date, 51 beneficiaries have been verified for the Gotong Royong Kadin Indonesia Uninhabitable House Renovation program, with the following breakdown: 24 homes in Kampung Rawa Subdistrict, 9 in Galur, 9 in Johar Baru, and 9 in Tanah Tinggi.

Also attending the event were Carmelita Hartarto, Kadin Indonesia Vice Chair for Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordination; Thomas Djusman, Vice Chair for Strategic Infrastructure and Rural Development; and Arifin, Mayor of Central Jakarta.
