Kadin and IOM Promote the Climate Catalytic Fund to Address Climate Change in Indonesia

Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a Socialization Event for the Climate Catalytic Fund (CCF) Program under the theme "Promoting Climate Change Adaptation Solutions" at the Kadin Indonesia Tower, Jakarta, on Monday (September 29, 2029).

This program serves as a platform to connect the business sector with local initiatives in addressing the increasingly tangible impacts of the climate crisis in Indonesia.

Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie, who attended the event virtually via video conference, emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships between businesses and international stakeholders in tackling climate change. Anindya, commonly known as Anin, believes that the establishment of the IOM-Kadin Fund can become a collaborative platform for various parties to drive climate change prevention efforts while also supporting sustainable development.

“This is very important because it brings together many stakeholders who can commit to a shared goal of preventing climate change, which offers numerous benefits for Indonesia,” Anin stated.

According to him, Indonesia holds strategic advantages in terms of both critical mineral resources and renewable energy potential. With financial support from the CCF, the implementation of energy transition and industrial downstreaming can be accelerated without neglecting efforts to preserve national biodiversity.

“The Climate Catalytic Fund (CCF) is an excellent initiative that can serve as a financial foundation to kickstart all these implementations. The key is to begin,” he added.

Anin also highlighted the potential of the CCF to act as an impact fund, as discussed in various United Nations forums.

“What’s crucial is that through this impact fund, we can collectively safeguard and pursue our sustainable development goals while ensuring climate change remains within safe limits,” he said.

Meanwhile, Suryani Motik, Kadin Indonesia's Vice Chair for Social Affairs and Disaster Management, underscored that the CCF serves as a medium for the business sector to actively contribute to solving environmental challenges while bridging the interests of communities and international institutions.

“This Climate Catalytic Fund program is one of the initiatives developed jointly by Kadin and IOM to explore what can be done between the business sector and IOM in anticipating and responding to climate change. For example, climate change-induced tidal flooding (rob),” said Suryani.

She cited the worsening impact of tidal flooding experienced by coastal communities, including in the Tanjung Priok area of North Jakarta.

“Previously, the water only reached ankle level, but now it’s waist-deep. What used to happen occasionally now occurs repeatedly within just a few months. Or in drought-prone areas what needs to be done there? Kadin acts as a bridge between communities, businesses, and IOM,” she added.

On the same occasion, IOM Chief of Mission Jeffrey Labovitz stressed the importance of private sector involvement in promoting local solutions for climate change mitigation.

“The Climate Catalytic Fund is a mechanism we are leveraging to channel funding, identify local initiatives, and engage the private sector and local organizations in mitigating the risks of displacement. And Kadin is our partner in this effort,” said Jeffrey.

Also present at the event were Nita Yudi, Kadin Indonesia Vice Chair Coordinator for Social Affairs; Thomas Djusman, Vice Chair for Strategic Infrastructure Development and Rural Development; Franta Eveline from the Disaster Risk Mapping and Evaluation Directorate of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB); and Ery Kurniawan, Head of Policy Formulation for State-Owned Assets at the Indonesian Ministry of Finance.
