Ahead of Ramadan 1447 H, Kadin Kalimantan Selatan Holds a Low-Cost Market in Banjarmasin

BANJARMASIN — Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri, the Kadin Kalimantan Selatan once again organized a low-cost market in Banjarmasin.

The two-day event, held on 11–12 February 2026, took place at the courtyard of the Kadin South Kalimantan Provincial Office in Banjarmasin. The initiative forms part of the business community’s contribution to supporting the government in maintaining public purchasing power, particularly amid rising demand for staple goods ahead of Ramadan.

Since the first day, residents showed strong enthusiasm, crowding the venue to purchase essential goods at prices more affordable than market rates.

Various staple items were offered, including 5-kilogram SPHP rice priced at Rp62,000, sugar at Rp16,500 per kilogram, Minyakita cooking oil (1 liter) at Rp15,700, eggs at Rp60,000 per tray, along with other daily necessities.

In addition, subsidized basic food packages were available at Rp48,000 per package—considered significantly cheaper than market prices. Each package contained 1 kilogram of sugar, 1 liter of cooking oil, 1 box of tea, 250 grams of salt, and three packs of instant noodles.

Chairwoman of Kadin South Kalimantan Shinta Laksmi Dewi explained that the low-cost market is a routine agenda held annually ahead of Ramadan. She noted that the prices offered reflect distributor rates that are further subsidized, ensuring they remain below prevailing market prices.

“This is a form of concern from the business community toward society. We want to help ease the burden on residents in fulfilling their basic needs before Ramadan,” she said.

One resident, Wiwin, expressed her appreciation for the program, saying it greatly helped her household budget. The price differences compared to regular market rates, she noted, could be allocated toward purchasing other necessities.

“Alhamdulillah, this is very helpful, especially since needs usually increase before Ramadan. With these prices, we can save more,” she said.

Through this low-cost market initiative, it is hoped that residents can shop more wisely and prepare for Ramadan with greater peace of mind.
