Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto held a gathering and discussion with several national figures at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday evening (March 3, 2026). The meeting served as a strategic dialogue forum to discuss global geopolitical developments, particularly the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda revealed that President Prabowo delivered a comprehensive briefing on the latest international developments. He added that the discussion also highlighted the weakening effectiveness of the current global order.
“The President provided updates and a briefing on various recent developments in the world, particularly those that have drawn much of our attention, especially the latest developments regarding the war or attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. We discussed the implications for Indonesia and for the world,” Hassan said in a statement to the media.
According to Hassan, during the forum President Prabowo also outlined the challenges facing Indonesia amid the turbulence of global conflict. He added that the discussion covered not only security and global peace issues, but also the potential wide-ranging economic impacts.
“We discussed the implications for global security and peace, but also the potential effects of this war on the global economy, particularly regarding supply chains, oil, and gas. We are calculating all the possible effects on us from that perspective, as well as assessing how long this war may continue,” Hassan explained.
Hassan also cited the latest developments regarding the potential escalation of the conflict. President Prabowo, he said, considers it important to open space for communication and exchange of ideas with national leaders.
“The President believes it is important to communicate the challenges faced by the government and by the President to those invited here tonight. The President is very open to responding to ideas and suggestions from the participants,” Hassan said.
Regarding Indonesia’s stance, Hassan emphasized that the conflict represents a unilateral action that lacks international mandate. Concerning the Board of Peace (BoP), he noted that discussions are continuing while taking into account the latest developments.
“We discussed it, but also in the context of the latest developments—whether the war currently unfolding in Iran could weaken the position and mandate of our BoP. We will reassess it from that perspective,” he said.
Those present at the gathering and discussion included the 6th President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 7th President Joko Widodo, the 13th Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and the 11th Vice President Boediono.
Also in attendance were former foreign ministers, chairpersons of coalition parties, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairwoman of Indonesian Employers Association Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, Chairman of Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association Akbar Himawan Buchari, as well as several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet.
Amid an increasingly polarized world, President Prabowo chose the path of dialogue and unity. Indonesia reaffirmed itself as a nation that remains calm in facing challenges, solid domestically, and constructive on the international stage.
