Chairperson of the East Kalimantan Kadin, Dayang Donna Faroek, has asked the central government to involve local entrepreneurs in food security. East Kalimantan is considered to have not yet achieved food self-sufficiency and still depends on food supplies from outside the region, such as Java and Sulawesi.
"Now there is IKN, which means there are already 23 thousand workers and there will be more ASNs and TNI-Polri. Now we have to think about how to serve them in terms of food,’ said Donna Faroek after a meeting with President Jokowi at Garuda Palace, Nusantara Capital Region (IKN), on Tuesday, 30 July 2024.
Donna said that there is great potential for the development of agricultural land in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), which until now has not been optimally utilised. The land area of around 13 thousand hectares is expected to be better managed to support IKN's food needs.
‘Because of its direct intersection with IKN, I hope Penajam Paser Utara can be followed up,’ said Donna.
In addition, Kadin Kaltim also highlighted the importance of collaboration between various parties, including the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the Ministry of Agriculture, and local governments. In the future, it is hoped that the local government will optimally help farmers in Penajam Paser Utara.
