Ottawa, Canada - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA) with the Business Council of Canada (BCC) at Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 (local time).
The signing of the MoU was witnessed directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.
This MoU lays the foundation for closer collaboration between the business communities of both countries, promoting trade, investment, and innovation partnerships in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, digital technology, and sustainable development.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of a strategic partnership between Indonesia and Canada through the signing of the CEPA, noting its significant economic and political value, and describing the occasion as a historic milestone in bilateral relations.
"I am very pleased to be here for the signing of the CEPA, and I believe this will be a historic moment. It will prove to be a significant milestone," said President Prabowo in his official remarks on Wednesday (September 24, 2025, local time).
Meanwhile, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, described the signing of the ICA-CEPA as a landmark in the economic partnership between the two nations.
"This agreement opens broader market access for Indonesian products from agribusiness to manufacturing and creates new opportunities in services, digital economy, and investment," said Anindya, popularly known as Anin.
Anin further stated that for Canada, the CEPA provides more secure access to one of the largest markets in Asia.
"This is a mutually beneficial partnership that strengthens supply chains, supports MSMEs, and builds trust between our two nations. Kadin Indonesia is ready to work closely with the Business Council of Canada to ensure the benefits of this agreement are truly realized by the business community and the wider public," he concluded.
The signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and Canada is expected to open greater market access in Canada for Indonesian businesses.
Key export products such as agribusiness, manufacturing, textiles, furniture, automotive, coffee, and cocoa are projected to gain new entry routes into the North American market.
The agreement is also seen as a means to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian exports while expanding the country’s global trade network.
On the other hand, Canada also stands to benefit. The agreement ensures more predictable market access to Indonesia, a country with over 280 million people. Strategic sectors such as clean energy, financial services, education, and technology are highlighted as key areas for further development.
The mutual benefits of this CEPA are expected to be felt by both countries. Beyond strengthening global supply chains, the agreement is set to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as expand opportunities for investment partnerships.
During the event, Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie was accompanied by Millie Lukito, Chair of Kadin Indonesia’s Canada Bilateral Committee.
