The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) together with the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) inaugurated the groundbreaking of the KSPSI education and training centre (Pusdiklat) in Purwakarta, (7/8/2024).
The groundbreaking was carried out by KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea, Kadin Indonesia Chairman Arsjad Rasjid, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The training centre will focus on improving the skills and competencies of Indonesian workers, particularly on reskilling and upskilling through vocational programmes.
Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Arsjad Rasjid expressed his appreciation for KSPSI's initiative to establish the largest training centre in ASEAN. Workers have a very important role in realising the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045 and achieving the 8% economic growth target launched by President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
"In an effort to achieve these goals and objectives, workers have an important role. Industrialisation is the key for our economy to grow. And in a healthy industry, there are workers who are the backbone of the industry. The construction of the Pusdiklat today is part of the synergy between labour groups, the police, and the business world,’ said Arsjad.
To achieve these targets, improving workers' skills and competencies through reskilling and upskilling programmes is crucial. For this reason, the Centre is an important stepping stone for KSPI and all workers in Indonesia.
With training for bargaining techniques, negotiation techniques, and advocacy, as well as other education and training that improves workers' skills, workers can ensure that their rights are properly fulfilled.
"Thus, not only can the Indonesian economy grow but we all prosper. This is called Pancasila Economy, where everyone contributes, and everyone also gets the benefits,’ Arsjad explained.
Arsjad also added that the active involvement of workers in a healthy industry will support the creation of an inclusive and sustainable economy, which in turn will accelerate the achievement of the economic growth target.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Coordinator for Organisation, Law, and Communication of Kadin Indonesia, Yukki N. Hanafi affirmed Kadin's support for the development of vocational education in Indonesia.
"We at Kadin Indonesia are well aware of the importance of vocational education in creating a skilled workforce that is ready to face industrial challenges.
Vocational education not only provides the technical skills needed, but also helps workers to adapt to rapid technological developments,’ said Yukki.
Yukki said that vocational education is one of Kadin Indonesia's priority programmes, which has actively encouraged synergy between the business world and educational institutions.
"With our commitment in supporting vocational education, we hope to create a workforce that is not only competent but also competitive in the global market. We believe that investment in vocational education is an investment in Indonesia's economic future,’ said Yukki.
