London, United Kingdom - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom, Desra Percaya, attended the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indonesia forum which took place at the House of Parliament complex in London, England, on Tuesday (20/05/2025) local time.
Anindya explained that during the meeting, various strategic issues were discussed, including the dynamics of trade tariffs between Indonesia and the United States (US), as well as opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation between Indonesia and the UK.
‘We met with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (on Indonesia) or you could say APPG is a group of people from parliament who focus on Indonesia. They asked about the dynamics of tariffs with the US, what Indonesia's position is, and what can be cooperated with the UK,’ said Anin.
Anin added that strong government-to-government (G2G) diplomacy needs to be accompanied by business and investment collaboration.
‘Visits like this are good, but they will have more impact if followed by good business and investment. Because this way we can achieve good growth, gradually reach 8 per cent (economic growth), create jobs, and of course increase trade and investment,’ Anin said.
This activity, Anin continued, is part of a series of economic diplomacy aimed at expanding Indonesia's market access beyond traditional partners such as the US and China.
‘This is our effort to open new markets, apart from the US and China, through multilateral cooperation such as OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) and BRICS, as well as bilateral efforts such as with the UK,’ Anin explained.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to the UK Desra Percaya emphasised that the meeting was important in strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
‘Mr Anin has conveyed Indonesia's economic development, including various strategic sectors. Our current need is to foster good relations between Indonesia and the UK, with the aim of increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment relations,’ said Desra.
