The Logistics and Supply Chain Agency of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will participate in the world's largest transport and logistics exhibition, Transport Logistic Southeast Asia Exhibition 2023, at Sands Expo, Singapore, on 1-3 November 2023. Through this participation, Kadin Indonesia will promote the progress of the transport and logistics industry in the country as well as explore and bridge international partnership opportunities.
Akbar Djohan, Head of the Logistics and Supply Chain Agency of Kadin Indonesia, said that the participation in the exhibition is a form of Kadin Indonesia's commitment to support the development of an efficient, resilient, and sustainable national logistics ecosystem and become a global supply chain solution in the future.
"In the last two years, Indonesia's transport and logistics sector has experienced rapid progress and significant growth, along with the development of the digital economy, including e-commerce. Therefore, Kadin Indonesia will be present and play an active role in this exhibition to show the progress of the country's logistics sector to the world," he said (20/7/2023).
Akbar continued, "This event is also the right momentum to bring together actors in the Indonesian logistics sector with international business actors, not only to share experiences and network, but also opportunities to synergise and compete in the global market."
Utilising Messe München's global network as an organiser, Transport Logistic Southeast Asia Exhibition 2023 targets hundreds of global companies as exhibitors and five thousand visitors from related industries, including influential buyers from various parts of the world, especially Asia. At the event, Kadin Indonesia's Logistics and Supply Chain Agency will also organise a high-level meeting to discuss global issues in transport and logistics.
Digitalisation of Services
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that in the first quarter of 2023, the transport and storage sector grew 15.93% (year-on-year), making it the sector with the highest growth. Meanwhile, Kadin Indonesia also projects that Indonesia's logistics industry this year has the potential to continue to grow above 6%. This potential is supported by the growing e-commerce market and the normalisation of community activities after the lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic status.
However, according to Akbar, the uneven connectivity infrastructure that causes high logistics costs is still one of the big challenges in Indonesia. Therefore, the development of infrastructure connectivity in Indonesia by prioritising logistics cost efficiency is considered very important.
"Indonesia as the largest archipelago in the world with more than 17,500 islands is a blessing as well as a huge challenge, related to the flow of logistics distribution which is influenced by geographical conditions and diverse environmental characteristics, as well as uneven development of infrastructure and facilities," he said.
Akbar further explained that improving logistics governance requires synergy between industry players and stakeholders, starting from supply chain, transport and logistics players, as well as related ministries. Synergy is needed, especially in encouraging the simplification of the national supply chain system by implementing service digitalisation.
"Kadin Indonesia appreciates the government's efforts to develop digitalisation of services in the logistics sector in the National Logistic Ecosystem (NLE). Kadin Indonesia through the Logistics and Supply Chain Agency continues to strive to be able to contribute to the integration of a structured and well-recorded national logistics system through a properly developed digitalisation system," Akbar concluded.
