The National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves), the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), and Pamerindo Indonesia as co-organiser held the International Battery Summit (IBS) 2024 at Hotel Mulia Senayan, Jakarta, on 29-30 July 2024.

IBS 2024 with the theme ‘The Future Battery Technology from Upstream to Downstream for Accelerating Clean Energy Transition’ is a strategic event towards the Indonesia International Sustainable Forum (ISSF) 2024.

IBS 2024 will address strategic issues in each supply chain of the battery industry complete with local and international solutions. It will holistically review advanced battery technology, critical minerals and mining, battery manufacturing, various applications in energy storage for renewable energy and electric vehicles, recycling towards circular economy, supporting infrastructure for electric vehicle ecosystem, business and investment opportunities, policy and diplomacy, battery testing and standardisation, and human resource development.

There are six strategic values presented by the International Battery Summit 2024:

1. Bringing together a global network of the battery industry and ecosystem, bringing together leaders for stronger collaboration amidst the rapid growth in demand for batteries for electric vehicles.
2. Encourage governments to implement policies and regulations in the battery industry and ecosystem in the era of clean energy transition.
3. Explore future battery technology from upstream to downstream. Showcase the latest innovations and battery value chain sustainability solutions from mining to recycling.
4. Open business matching and investment opportunities with all stakeholders through direct interaction with industry players.
5. Encourage strategic alliances between business entities in the battery industry and its ecosystem, and enhance strategic partnerships to strengthen business position in a competitive global market.
6. Pioneering the International Battery Summit in Indonesia. To position Indonesia as the centre of the world battery industry.

IBS 2024 features more than 50 distinguished speakers and over 300 participants from 20 countries. The current state of the global battery and electric vehicle industry will be delivered by experts, involving policy makers, ministerial regulatory bodies, standardisation agencies, and others. In addition, Indonesia's roadmap to become a major player in the global battery and electric vehicle industry was also presented by government representatives.

The event also inaugurated the most complete battery testing facility in Indonesia, a collaboration between PT Carsurin Tbk and NBRI. There will also be the signing of an MoU between NBRI and Kadin Indonesia and NBRI and Daya Dimensi Indonesia (Dayalima), to encourage a climate of innovation & investment and improve the quality of human resources, especially in the battery industry.

The International Battery Summit 2024 is expected to be an important event to present strategic alliances to present business opportunities and collaboration to support Indonesia as an important player in the global battery industry.
