Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and people-to-people ties between Indonesia and France during a gala dinner titled “Celebrating 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between France and Indonesia,” held at the Pullman Hotel, Central Park Jakarta, on Thursday evening, April 24, 2025.
Anindya, commonly known as Anin, stated that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries is a strategic moment to deepen the bilateral partnership.
“This is also an opportunity to build stronger people-to-people relations. Tonight’s event is a great example of that—bringing together charity, fashion, and community. These are the pillars that can truly enhance Indonesia–France relations,” said Anin.
Macron’s Upcoming Visit to Indonesia
Anin also announced the upcoming state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia in May, which is expected to further cement cooperation across a range of sectors.
“President Macron will soon make a state visit to Indonesia. The two governments are preparing to strengthen ties in various sectors—defense, education, healthcare, and industries with high growth potential,” he said.
France as a Gateway to the EU, Indonesia to ASEAN
He further highlighted the potential completion of the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Indonesia-EU CEPA), noting that it would unlock new trade opportunities for both nations.
“France can serve as a navigator for Indonesia within the European Union, just as Indonesia can be a gateway for France to the ASEAN region,” Anin remarked.
Economic Relations and Investment Outlook
According to Anin, the economic relationship between the two countries has already seen notable progress, with over 200 French companies operating in Indonesia.
“Our bilateral trade is currently around USD 1.5 billion, and there’s still plenty of room for growth—including in two-way investments,” he noted.
France Prioritizes Indonesia as a Strategic Partner
French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, affirmed that Indonesia is a priority country for France.
“We aim to deepen our partnership in multiple areas—from political dialogue and cultural exchange to academic collaboration and business relations. We are committed not only to trade, but also to investment,” Penone stated.
Creative Economy and SME Support
President of the Indonesian French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI), Sébastien Gautier, reaffirmed France’s support for Indonesia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“We already support many sectors, but we know we can do even better. Tonight, we’re highlighting the creative economy with the participation of businesses of all sizes, including small entrepreneurs. This is an area where France can share expertise and help them grow and go international,” Gautier said.
