Kadin Targets USD 50 Billion in Indonesia–India Bilateral Trade

Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, received an official visit from the Ambassador of India to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, at The Convergence Indonesia, Epicentrum, South Jakarta, on Thursday (August 28, 2025).

The meeting focused on following up the outcomes of the Indonesia–India CEO Forum, which took place during President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to India earlier in January.

Anindya who is familiarly known as Anin explained that discussions were centered on the progress of various working groups agreed upon during the forum.

“We discussed several working groups that were initiated during the CEO Forum (January 2025). These include manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and others. Together with the Ambassador, we sat down to assess the progress what’s moving forward, what’s lagging, and what needs to be done next,” said Anin.

He added that the meeting also served as a preparatory step ahead of a potential visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia early next year.

“There’s a possibility that President (Prabowo) will invite Prime Minister Modi, so we must prepare. India and Indonesia have a lot of untapped economic potential that we need to work on,” Anin noted.

Anin highlighted the significant trade potential between the two nations. Currently, the total Indonesia-India bilateral trade stands at around USD 30 billion, with Indonesia’s exports reaching USD 23 billion and imports from India amounting to USD 7 billion.

“The goal is to push that figure to USD 50 billion in the near future,” Anin stated.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty emphasized that the main challenge in Indonesia–India relations lies in translating strong diplomatic ties into concrete economic activities.

“We are close friends. The challenge is how to turn that friendship into real economic cooperation one that creates jobs in both Indonesia and India and contributes to the welfare of our people,” said Ambassador Chakravorty.

He added that in today’s uncertain global geopolitical landscape, Indonesia–India cooperation is more relevant than ever.

“India has a population of 1.4 billion, and Indonesia nearly 300 million, with rising income levels. Our domestic markets are massive. It’s in our best interest to leverage each other’s markets, rather than relying solely on traditional ones,” he emphasized.

Also present at the meeting were members of the Kadin Indonesia executive board, including Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs Bernardino M. Vega, Executive Director of Kadin Indonesia Institute Mulya Amri, and Chief of Staff to the Kadin Chairman Harya Mitra Hidayat.
