Kadin Observes Negative Impact of Entertainment Tax Rate Raise

The Acting Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, is scrutinising the increase in entertainment tax rates contained in Law (UU) Number 1 Year 2022 on Financial Relations between the Central Government and Regional Governments (HKPD). According to Yukki, the implementation of this entertainment tax increase will have a negative impact on the tourism sector.

"This will certainly have a negative impact on the tourism sector in general and the supply chain in particular after Covid-19 hit this sector," said Yukki, in the webinar "Hot Ball of Entertainment Tax Increase" held by Kadin and investortrust.id, Wednesday (31/1/2024).

As the main umbrella for entrepreneurs, Yukki said Kadin Indonesia was paying close attention to the concerns of business actors who expressed anxiety about the implementation of the HKPD Law. One of the concerns of business people is the decline in tourist interest in visiting tourist destinations.

"As well as price increases in the entertainment industry which have a derivative effect on the supporting industries. Even the potential for layoffs in related sectors," he said.

Apart from the Acting Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, the webinar also presented speakers Chairman of the Standing Committee for Tourism Bid of Kadin Indonesia Maulana Yusran, Head of Tourism Industry and Creative Economy of Bali Province, Ida Ayu Nyoman Candrawati, Head of Organisation of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) Yuno Abeta Lahay and moderated by Investortrust.id Editor-in-Chief Primus Dorimulu.

Meanwhile, Head of the Tourism Industry and Creative Economy Division of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Ida Ayu Nyoman Candrawati said the tourism sector was undergoing recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is evidenced by the surge in tourists on the Island of the Gods in 2023.

"If you look at foreign tourists, the target is only 4.5 million. We are very happy that until 2023 we have reached more than the target of around 5.2 million, to be precise 5,285,822 people. However, we have not yet reached the number of foreign tourist arrivals in 2019, which reached 6.2 million people," Ida said.

In terms of domestic tourists, the recovery has also not fully occurred. In 2023, Ida noted that there was an archipelago tourist movement of 9.8 million people from a target of 7 million people.

"But it doesn't seem to be at all like in 2019, which at that time reached 10.5 million (people)," he said.
