The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is encouraging Domestic Content Level (TKDN) for the health industry sector in Indonesia in order to be more independent and reduce dependence on imports.
In the roadmap book Indonesia Emas 2045, Kadin has clearly stated that one of the strategies to achieve the ideals of Indonesia Emas is to build a health strategy.
Kadin noted that currently there are 2,718 medical device products with registered Domestic Content Level (TKDN). The target of increasing TKDN from 12% to 30% by 2022, and reaching 34% by 2023. The number of domestic medical device distribution licences has increased significantly, reaching 71.3%.
"Through the implementation of TKDN, it is expected to increase opportunities for job creation with the production and distribution of medical devices locally," said Vice Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Health, Charles Honoris in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled "TKDN: Guarding Independence in the Health Care Procurement System" (26/2/2024).
In addition to Charles, the FGD was attended by Vice Chair of Kadin Indonesia for the Coordinator for Human Quality Improvement, Research and Technology, and Innovation, Carmelita Hartoto and Special Staff of the Minister for Resilience of the Drug and Medical Devices Industry, Ministry of Health, Laksono Trisnantoro.
Charles said the size of the healthcare market showed a significant increase in 2024. The number of homecare medical device units is expected to reach 312,328 units. The growth of medical devices shows tremendous strength, signalling great potential in the medical device industry.
"Medical device products must obtain a circulation licence before they can be circulated in the market. Quality and distribution issues will not be a problem if TKDN has been fulfilled," he concluded.
