The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said it is ready to support the national foundation Konservasi Indonesia in its efforts to realise the government's blue economy targets, particularly in the Blue Halo S programme initiative.
The support is contained in a letter of intent (LoI) announced by both parties at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 in Jakarta, Friday (6/9/2024).
Vice Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Coordinating for Organisation, Law and Communication, Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, stated that Kadin Indonesia is committed to supporting sustainable projects related to Blue Halo S.
‘Kadin Indonesia has productively provided business proposals through our members, on various Indonesian Fisheries Management Areas (WPPs). We believe in a sustainable economy that focuses on the concept of blue economy,’ said Yukki.
The LOI was signed by Kadin Indonesia's Vice Chairman for Marine and Fisheries, Joseph Pangalila and Senior Vice President & Executive Chair of Konservasi Indonesia, Meizani Irmadhiany.
The Blue Halo S programme is an initiative that balances the protection and sustainable production of Indonesia's marine wealth and supports the Indonesian government's efforts to transform the marine and coastal economy in response to the impacts of climate change.
The programme will be implemented from 2025 to 2031 in Fisheries Management Area (WPP) 572, which borders six provinces along the west coast of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung and Banten.
Yukki Nugrahawan said to support a sustainable blue economy, Kadin proposed a new programme aimed at improving environmentally friendly fish farming practices in WPP 572.
‘Therefore, Kadin is collaborating for funding and technical assistance from the Blue Halo S Programme to business districts that can enable us to develop and implement advanced aquaculture technology, improve infrastructure, and implement comprehensive training programmes for local businesses,’ Yukki said.
He added that Kadin's proposed projects are expected to not only provide jobs for the local community, but also increase the number of businesses that implement the blue economy, as well as improve the quality and knowledge of businesses and local communities regarding the blue economy.
