The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in collaboration with Yayasan Bambu Lingkungan Lestari (YBLL) will hold an Impact Investment Day (IID) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, 7-8 September 2024, as an effort to encourage restoration and sustainability initiatives. With the theme ‘Championing Sustainable and Restorative Initiatives in Indonesia’, IID, which has become part of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, aims to strengthen ecosystem restoration and sustainability initiatives by connecting initiators and supporters of these initiatives.
IID is designed as a platform to connect impact drivers, such as social enterprises, community organisations and NGOs, with impact enablers, including investors, donors and philanthropic organisations. Through IID, Kadin Indonesia and YBLL will showcase a number of restoration and sustainability initiatives and collaborations, particularly in the outermost and frontier regions, with a special emphasis on the untapped potential in Eastern Indonesia.
Head of Kadin Indonesia's Economic Empowerment Agency and IID Steering Board, Bambang Brodjonegoro, said, ‘Through Impact Investment Day, we invite businesses to look beyond compliance, and embrace the application of ESG principles as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable growth. It is no longer about meeting minimum standards, but about leading change and creating long-term value for businesses, communities and the planet we live on.’
YBLL Chairperson Monica Tanuhandaru added that YBLL's experience with bamboo has greatly influenced IID's approach. ‘In IID, we apply these learnings by prioritising projects that harness NTT's local natural potential, emphasising integrated value chains, and focusing on community capacity building and market creation for sustainable products. This holistic approach became the blueprint for IID in empowering impact drivers and connecting them with the wider market through impact enablers.’
IID contains a series of events that allow participants the opportunity to witness innovative project presentations and share insights with experts in the field of restoration and sustainability. IID Talk sessions will feature experts and thought leaders who will discuss the role of sustainable development in the economic and environmental future of Eastern Indonesia. Keynote speakers will include Temasek Foundation CEO Boon Heong Ng, Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) Director Dr Joko Tri Haryanto, and NTT Muda Founder Stela Nau.
The IID Learn session provides a practical opportunity for participants to learn how to develop impact-orientated initiatives, and will be facilitated by Leverate Group and Impact Investment Exchange. While the IID Pitch and Matchmaking session is a special session where curated initiators (Impact Drivers) are paired with a panel of potential investors and impact enablers. The Impact Drivers who participated included BambooCoop, EcoNusa Foundation, Jaga Semesta, Javara, Krealogi, Spedagi, 3 Pilar Pertiwi, TorajaMelo, and several impact entrepreneurs from Angin Foundation's Build Empowered Women Entrepreneurs programme, namely Kalara Borneo, Riles Lestary, Tenun. In, and Timor Moringga.
