Kadin Indonesia Donates IDR 250 Million Worth of Mattresses to PMI for West Java Disaster Victims

Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) has donated IDR 250 million (approximately USD 15,000) worth of mattresses to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) to support disaster relief efforts in Karawang and Tasikmalaya Regencies, West Java.

The handover ceremony took place at the PMI National Headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday (June 5, 2025).

The donation was symbolically presented by Dyah Anita Prihapsari, Kadin Indonesia’s Deputy Chairperson for Social Affairs Coordination, accompanied by Suryani Motik, Deputy Chairperson for Social and Disaster Mitigation. The donation was received by A.M. Fachir, Secretary General of PMI.

“On behalf of Kadin Indonesia Chairman Mr. Anindya Bakrie, who was unable to attend today, we express the business community’s commitment and concern for disaster response across the country,” said Dyah Anita Prihapsari, also known as Nita Yudi.

She explained that the donation stemmed from discussions between Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, who also expressed deep concern for affected communities.

“This donation is made in the name of Kadin Indonesia by Mr. Anindya Bakrie personally. It is specifically intended to procure mattresses—a basic yet crucial need for maintaining the physical and mental well-being of disaster victims,” she added.

Nita emphasized that the donation reflects real solidarity between the private sector and humanitarian organizations.

“We believe that basic needs such as mattresses, although they may seem simple, can be incredibly meaningful during difficult times,” she said.

Meanwhile, Suryani Motik reaffirmed the long-standing collaboration between Kadin and PMI and its continued reinforcement.

“As soon as the disaster struck, we in the Social and Disaster Mitigation Division of Kadin coordinated immediately with PMI. Since I am also part of the PMI organization, we quickly mobilized support from our fellow business partners,” Suryani explained.

She also announced that Kadin would soon organize a charity golf tournament, with proceeds allocated for humanitarian missions.

PMI Secretary General A.M. Fachir welcomed Kadin’s support and detailed the scale of the disaster, particularly the floods that affected the Greater Jakarta area and parts of West Java in March 2025. The floods impacted over 60,000 households, or around 130,000 people.

“During the emergency period, we carried out evacuation and logistics distribution operations, including clean water supply. To date, more than 42,000 individuals have directly benefited,” Fachir reported.

He also underscored the critical role of public and institutional participation in disaster response.

“We deeply appreciate Kadin’s consistent support as a trusted partner in PMI’s humanitarian operations. Contributions like this are vital, especially when there is often a gap between the number of victims and the available relief capacity,” he concluded.
