The International Eurasian Council offers cooperation to the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in 3 projects, including power plants from burning waste, infrastructure, and coal export trade.
This became the focus of discussion during the visit of the Chairman of the International Eurasian Council as well as the Executive Vice President of the Chinese Asian Economic Development Association, and the Vice President of the Chinese Overseas Development Association, Liao Bin to Kadin East Java, Tuesday (14/5/2024).
Present on the occasion were Kadin East Java Chairman Adik Dwi Putranto, Vice Chairman for Investment Turino Junaidi, Vice Chairman for MSME Idris Yahya, Vice Chairman for Construction M. Rizal and a number of East Java business people.
Liao Bin revealed that the waste incineration power plant project requires about 600 tonnes of waste per day to be processed into electricity.
"We have met with Pj. Governor of East Java. He said that in Surabaya there is an excess of 600 tonnes of waste so it could be an opportunity for cooperation," he said.
Apart from waste processing, Liao Bin admitted that his party is also quite expert in the field of Solar Cells. So if there is potential for the development of power plans from solar cells, they will consider.
Responding to the offer, Kadin East Java Chairman Adik Dwi Putranto welcomed it positively, especially regarding the construction of waste combustion power plants and solar cells. According to him, currently there is already one power plant from waste processing built in Surabaya, namely the Benowo Waste Power Plant (PLTSa).
"But that alone I think is not enough, we need another one of the same project to overcome the waste problem, especially in Surabaya. Currently, the volume of waste entering Benowo TPS reaches 1,600 tonnes per day. While the capacity of PLTSa Benowo is only able to process 1,000 tonnes of waste per day. So there is indeed an excess of 600 tonnes of waste," said Adik.
In addition to PLTSa, the development of solar cells has also begun to be carried out by a number of industries in East Java, one of the industries that has implemented it is PT HM Sampoerna. "In the future, JIIPE will also build a solar cell power plan in two locations, on the land side and on the sea side," he continued.
He revealed that the relationship between East Java and China has so far been established quite well. Investment from China to East Java is also quite a lot. Citing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Chinese investment in the period 2010 to the second quarter of 2023 was recorded as many as 23 business fields spread across 8 districts / cities in East Java with an investment value of US$ 490.22 million.
In detail, China's largest business sector investments in East Java in order are the food industry, non-metallic minerals, basic metals, metal goods, non-machinery and equipment, and trade and repairs.
"Last week, the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry was visited by the Chinese Consul General in Surabaya to discuss strengthening the economy. Our relationship with Chinese companies in East Java is very good. There are a number of investors from China who have just entered as well, including PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia in JIIPE. We support each other. When they need something, we support them," he said.
On the same occasion, Vice Chairman for Investment of the Kadin East Java Turino Junaedi explained the potential for investment in Indonesia. He emphasised that Indonesia is a country rich in human resources and natural resources. Currently, Indonesia's population reaches 280 million people.
"There are several investments that we offer, including property investment such as residential development, hospitals, ports, and so on. There is also an industry for raw material substitution," explained Turino Junaedi.
The substitution industry, he continued, is a potential industry because currently Indonesia always calculates how much domestic needs and how much can be supported from within the country. Thus, there is a restriction on imports. "This is an opportunity to build a substitution company. Many Chinese entrepreneurs have entered," he continued.
Another potential that can be tapped is the relocation of Chinese industries from America due to geopolitical factors. China's dispute with America has resulted in the relocation of many Chinese industries in America. "If we need local partners, we are ready to help," he concluded.
