Kadin Reveals Untapped Export Potential Estimated at USD 145 Billion

Jakarta - Juan Permata Adoe, Vice Chairman for Export Development Coordination at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), highlighted the strategic importance of the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) as a key moment to accelerate the expansion of national export markets.

Juan delivered these remarks during the Luncheon Reception of Trade Expo Indonesia, held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).

According to Juan, TEI has grown into Indonesia’s largest business-to-business (B2B) trade exhibition, bringing together industry professionals, showcasing innovative products, and opening up valuable business networking opportunities for participants.

“KADIN Indonesia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, continues to encourage the private sector to boost the competitiveness of export products and expand their reach in international markets,” he said.

Juan noted that Indonesia’s export performance continues to show a positive trend. Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), exports reached USD 24.61 billion in May 2025 and USD 23.44 billion in June.

Cumulatively, exports from January to May totaled USD 111.98 billion, representing a nearly 7% increase compared to the same period last year.

“By the first half of 2025, total exports are estimated to reach USD 135.41 billion, reflecting sustained global demand and stable industrial activity,” he explained.

However, Juan emphasized that Indonesia’s export potential remains significantly untapped. According to estimates by the International Trade Centre (ITC), Indonesia’s total export potential stands at USD 302 billion, of which around USD 145 billion is still unrealized.

“This means the door is still wide open from sustainable palm oil derivatives, automotive components, electrical equipment, to lifestyle products. Trade Expo is the right platform to convert that potential into real export contracts,” Juan stated.

He also highlighted the increasing simplicity and integration of Indonesia’s export ecosystem. Through the InaExport directory, buyers can easily access exporter information, while export licensing is streamlined via INATRADE, which is connected to the Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) and the Risk-Based Online Single Submission (OSS RBA) system.

Certificates of origin can also now be issued electronically through e-SKA, speeding up the export process. In addition, the Indonesia Eximbank provides financing and export guarantee facilities.

On the policy side, Juan pointed to the National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE) and Government Regulation No. 28/2025, which help clarify risk classifications, establish service standards, and strengthen regulatory oversight.

“Indonesia is also expanding its access to global markets. We are now part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the Indonesia-Korea CEPA, and the Indonesia–UAE CEPA. A political agreement has also been reached for the Indonesia-EU CEPA,” Juan added.

He underscored that all of these efforts are aimed at aligning Indonesia’s capacity with global market demand.

“We urge buyers not to leave TEI without a concrete purchasing plan. For exporters, this is the moment to level up by diversifying your products and markets. And for investors, Indonesia offers a production base and supply hub that’s connected to Asia and the world,” said Juan.

“The Indonesian export story in 2025 is no longer just about ambition it’s about measurable progress. Trade Expo Indonesia is where that progress turns into opportunity,” he concluded.

Also present at the event were Saifudin Hisbullah, Vice Chairman for Export System Integration at KADIN Indonesia; Fajarini Puntodewi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade; Heru H. Subolo, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Vibiadhi Swasti Pradana, Director of Debindo.
