Davos, Switzerland - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto delivered a keynote address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026, held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Davos, Switzerland. In his address, President Prabowo underscored that the world is currently facing a period of profound uncertainty, in which peace and stability are essential prerequisites for global growth and prosperity.
President Prabowo emphasized that history has consistently demonstrated the importance of peace and stability as humanity’s most valuable assets. Without them, he noted, sustainable prosperity cannot be achieved.
“History teaches us that peace and stability are our most valuable assets. Peace and stability are the primary prerequisites for growth and prosperity. There can be no prosperity without peace,” President Prabowo stressed.
Addressing an audience comprising world leaders, global business figures, and international policymakers, President Prabowo also outlined Indonesia’s economic performance amid ongoing global challenges. He cited an assessment by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which recently described Indonesia as a bright spot in global economic growth.
“The IMF recently described Indonesia as, and I quote, ‘a global bright spot with strong economic growth amid a challenging external environment,’” President Prabowo said.
The President explained that despite tightening financial conditions, rising trade tensions, and political uncertainty worldwide, Indonesia has continued to maintain consistent economic growth. Beyond growth, he highlighted Indonesia’s macroeconomic stability, including well-managed inflation and fiscal discipline.
“Our inflation remains at around 2 percent. Our government deficit is now maintained at below 3 percent of GDP,” the President stated.
According to President Prabowo, international recognition of Indonesia’s economic resilience is not based on unfounded optimism, but rather on evidence-based and well-calibrated policies.
“They recognize that Indonesia’s economy is resilient. Our policies have been—and will continue to be—well calibrated,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, President Prabowo stressed that the peace and stability Indonesia has enjoyed are the result of consistent policy choices, rather than mere coincidence. He reaffirmed that Indonesia has consistently chosen the path of unity and cooperation in navigating various challenges.
In his remarks, President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of maintaining national credibility, particularly in fiscal management and the fulfillment of international obligations. He emphasized Indonesia’s strong track record in meeting its financial commitments, regardless of changes in government.
“Throughout Indonesia’s history, we have never defaulted on our debt—not once,” President Prabowo stated firmly.
President Prabowo’s address at WEF 2026 reaffirmed Indonesia’s position as a nation that upholds peace, stability, and responsible economic governance, while strengthening its role as a credible strategic partner in the global economic and diplomatic landscape.
