President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the European Commission President and announced a major milestone achieved during the discussions.
“Today we have reached a breakthrough. After 10 years of negotiations, we have agreed on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which essentially represents a free trade agreement. President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the development and expressed her confidence in the growing strength of the EU–Indonesia partnership. She also highlighted the shared values and aspirations that bind the two regions.
“We are both vibrant and diverse democracies. We understand that Indonesia’s national motto is Bhinneka Tunggal Ika—Unity in Diversity—and one of the core principles of the European Union is precisely that: United in Diversity. So, indeed, we share common values and ambitions,” she remarked.
The meeting in Brussels stands as a pivotal milestone, opening broader opportunities for market access and enhancing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union across multiple areas in the years to come.
