The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has the same dreams as the nation's current leaders. Both elected and ongoing leaders want Indonesia to get out of the middle-class trap.
Despite the ups and downs of the global economy, characterised by geopolitical turmoil in several regions, Indonesia is still targeting 8% economic growth. This is the only way for Indonesia to get out of the middle-class trap.
However, if calculated, to achieve this economic growth, Indonesia's state budget can only finance around 3.5 - 4%. The rest of the time, Indonesia relies on capital inflow, through investors who are kind enough to invest in Indonesia.
Government Partner
Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Arsjad Rasjid firmly stated that Kadin Indonesia supports the elected leader. This assertion comes from Kadin's bylaws, which place the organisation as a partner of the government.
With this position, Kadin Indonesia has a fundamental question for Indonesia: to achieve 8% economic growth, where will the development of this nation go?
On the basis of this question, Kadin Indonesia compiled the Golden Indonesia 2045 Roadmap. The document contains Kadin Indonesia's input and recommendations for the government to prepare Indonesia as a developed country.
"The fundamental question is, where do we want to go? If that question has been answered, we can prepare the industry, which sectors to focus on, what technology is needed, and which skills are suitable for the industry,’ said Arsjad.
The Golden Indonesia Roadmap has been completed. The document was submitted by Kadin Indonesia to President Joko Widodo in the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) in September last year.
On the same footing, Kadin Indonesia is currently preparing a white paper as input and recommendations for the elected government. The white paper is the result of discussions from various elements, including Kadin in all regions, organisational associations, professional associations, academics, religious elements, and mass organisations.
The document is expected to be completed in September and can help the new government achieve the ideals of the Golden Indonesia 2045 as well as the successful implementation of Asa Cita and the 17 priority programmes of the elected government.
With these steps, Kadin Indonesia hopes that Indonesia will be able to attract investors and global funds can enter Indonesia. Market-oriented policies are one of the keys.
In addition, alignment or one step between the central, provincial, district / city governments is another key to gaining international trust.
Kadin Indonesia has always acted as the government's representative in attracting global entrepreneurs and investors to Indonesia. This can be seen from the prominent role of Kadin Indonesia and Arsjad Rasjid in the G20 momentum in Bali in 2022, followed by the ASEAN BAC 2023 at the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, and a number of other momentum.
