Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin officially opened the ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center today. The largest intelligent transportation system forum in the Asia Pacific aims to exchange ideas, showcase technological innovations, and discuss the latest ITS advancements.
In his remarks, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in facing today's transportation challenges. “Indonesia is once again hosting an international event, and the ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 should be a moment to create a smart, safe and sustainable mobility system for the welfare of society,” he said.
The ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024, organized by the Indonesian ITS Association, is a platform to explore cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions that transform transportation systems into smart, safe and sustainable networks. The forum brings together policymakers, industry leaders, experts, and civil society representatives to advance sustainable transportation initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region.
Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi also said that all transportation industry stakeholders from various countries will attend this biennial forum, “This event is attended by ministers of transportation of countries in the Asia Pacific region, regional heads, ambassadors of foreign countries in Jakarta, and leaders of international organizations. Also present are state-owned enterprises, regional-owned enterprises, and the private sector,” he said.
The forum was also attended by more than 1,000 delegates from various countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore. International organizations such as UNESCAP, ASEAN, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and even the European Investment Bank also participated. Also, more than 50 national and international speakers will fill various discussion sessions and a technology exhibition showcasing the latest innovations in transportation.
The forum opens with the launch of three key initiatives that will have a major impact on the transportation sector in Indonesia. Among them, the Chair on Transformation towards Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility, which has been formulated with 28 representatives of friendly governments. The declaration affirms the commitment to advance intelligent and sustainable transportation in the Asia-Pacific region through regional connectivity, inclusive transportation, high-impact solutions, and creative financing mechanisms.
Furthermore, the Jakarta Initiative on Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility was launched, a concrete action plan for smart and sustainable transportation development starting from Jakarta. The initiative involves collaboration between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the Indonesian ITS Association, ITS Asia Pacific, and the 5P Global Movement, reflecting the synergy between businesses, transportation associations, and global civil society alliances.

This initiative is in line with our commitment to drive innovative, sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Indonesia. Collaboration between the private sector, government, and civil society is critical to realizing our shared goal of a smarter, greener, and more connected transportation system for Indonesia and the wider Asia Pacific region,” said Kadin Indonesia Chairman Arsjad Rasjid.
Finally, the launch of the Electric Mobility Road to COP 29 (E-mobiles to COP29) campaign, which is the launch of the use of electric vehicles by COP29 delegates, starting from Jakarta, Rome, and Baku, confirms Indonesia's commitment to clean energy and sustainable mobility.
ITS Indonesia President, William P. Sabandar, added, “ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 provides an opportunity for all of us to learn, share and collaborate. A concrete example is the launch of 3 initiatives in the Transportation sector. Of course we hope that the forum and the three initiatives launched can encourage the implementation of smart transportation technology that can improve the quality of life and encourage Indonesia's economic growth”.
