Indonesian Bumiputra Citizens Foundation and Kadin Indonesia China Committee Launch ‘Dharma Bhakti’ Program for 1,000 Talented Indonesian Youth

Jakarta, October 30, 2025 - In commemoration of Indonesia’s Youth Pledge Day, the Yayasan Warga Bumiputra Indonesia (YWBI) officially launched the Dharma Bhakti Warga Bumiputra Indonesia Program, a scholarship initiative providing opportunities for 1,000 of Indonesia’s most talented young men and women to pursue higher education both domestically and abroad.

As part of its commitment to contribute to Indonesia’s advancement through strengthened bilateral relations with China particularly in education the Kadin Indonesia–China Committee (KIKT) announced its support for the initiative by sending Dharma Bhakti scholarship recipients each year to Tianjin University, China.

The signing ceremony was attended by Garibaldi Thohir, Chairman of KIKT; General (Ret.) Prof. Dr. A.M. Hendropriyono, S.T., S.H., M.H., Chairman of YWBI; and Prof. Chai Liyuan, President of Tianjin University. The signing was witnessed by Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf and accompanied by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Suhartono Suratman on Thursday (October 30) in Jakarta.

YWBI Chairman General (Ret.) Prof. Dr. A.M. Hendropriyono emphasized that this strategic partnership marks the beginning of a major educational collaboration for Indonesia’s youth.

“This initiative is expected to make a tangible contribution to the national agenda of meeting the country’s growing demand for professional talent particularly doctors. As mandated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, we still need at least 5,000 new medical professionals to serve communities across the archipelago,” said Hendropriyono.

“We will also collaborate with leading universities in Indonesia to ensure that scholarship recipients not only gain academic knowledge abroad, but also a strong moral and cultural foundation at home. This way, when they return, they are ready to serve society bringing knowledge, a spirit of nationalism, and the noble values of kebumiputraan (indigenous identity and devotion to the nation).”

Meanwhile, Garibaldi Thohir, Chairman of KIKT, underscored the importance of human capital development as the foundation of national progress.

“We believe that the future of a nation is built not only upon its economic strength but also on the quality of its human resources,” Thohir said.

“Together with YWBI and Tianjin University, KIKT is committed to expanding educational opportunities for Indonesia’s young generation. This partnership also reflects the genuine spirit of friendship between China and Indonesia two nations deeply committed to advancing education and human capital development. Going forward, we will continue to explore similar collaborations with other universities, particularly in the field of medicine, to support key government programs.”

Under this initiative, YWBI and KIKT will jointly select and facilitate 50 Indonesian students each year to study at Tianjin University one of China’s top national universities under the Ministry of Education. Both institutions will work closely with Tianjin University to ensure that nominated students meet all academic and administrative requirements.

During the event, KIKT and Tianjin University also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and China, particularly in the areas of education, scientific research, and human resource development. As part of the agreement, KIKT will send at least 20 Indonesian lecturers and professionals annually to participate in training programs at Tianjin University, while also encouraging joint research and innovation projects between Tianjin University and Indonesian companies under KIKT.

The synergy between social organizations, national entrepreneurs, and academic institutions not only reinforces the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and China but also serves as a concrete step toward realizing the vision of “Indonesia Emas 2045.”
