Inauguration of the Kadin Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Board; Anindya Bakrie Highlights That the Region’s Economic Strength Rests on People and Culture

Yogyakarta – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) Anindya Novyan Bakrie officially inaugurated and sworn in the board of Kadin of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) for the 2025–2030 term at The Alana Hotel Yogyakarta on Saturday (31 January 2026).

In his remarks, Anindya—commonly known as Anin—highlighted that Yogyakarta’s uniqueness lies in an economic foundation centered on human capital rather than the exploitation of natural resources.

“More than 60 percent of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta is supported by the services sector, with significant contributions from education, tourism, the creative economy, MSMEs, as well as culture- and heritage-based economic activities,” Anin said.

According to him, this economic structure gives Yogyakarta a distinctive resilience compared to many other regions.

“When the world faces shifts in supply chains, changes in consumption patterns, and rapid global pressures, economies that are anchored in human quality, creativity, and culture tend to be more adaptive and resilient to shocks,” Anin explained.

He added that future challenges lie not merely in creating new sectors, but in maintaining the quality of human resources and creative ecosystems so they remain relevant amid changing times.

“In this context, the role of the business community is crucial to ensure that Yogyakarta’s economic growth remains value-based, inclusive, and provides space for MSMEs and culture-based economic actors to continue to grow,” Anin said.

Meanwhile, newly inaugurated Chairwoman of Kadin DIY GKR Mangkubumi reaffirmed her commitment to pursuing not only economic growth figures, but also environmental stewardship through green investment.

“We urge investors entering Yogyakarta to grow together with the local community, apply green investment principles, and avoid causing pollution. Yogyakarta seeks to develop alongside investors who share the same values and commitment to sustainability,” GKR Mangkubumi stressed.

She added that Kadin DIY is currently formulating work programs aligned with the vision and mission of the President and the Regional Government to ensure inclusive regional economic growth.

Furthermore, Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, in his address, offered a philosophical analogy. He likened the business community to bamboo—flexible yet upright amid the gusts of global change.

According to the Sultan, Kadin DIY must serve as a hub of collaboration capable of nurturing local champions across sectors ranging from food and MSMEs to the creative economy.

He emphasized that transformation within an organization always begins with clear leadership.

“The world is moving very fast, supply chains are shifting, and technology is advancing without pause. Yet progress is ultimately determined by leadership—not merely by machines and capital, but by clarity of mind, sharpness of intuition, and wisdom in decision-making,” he concluded.

Also in attendance were M. Aziz Syamsuddin, Vice Chair Coordinator for Legal Affairs, Human Rights, and Infrastructure at Kadin Indonesia; Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko, Vice Chair for Organization at Kadin Indonesia; Widiyanto Saputro, Vice Chair for Membership at Kadin Indonesia; and Faurani, Chairman of Kadin West Nusa Tenggara.
