President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a warm welcome from President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday, April 13, 2026. In his opening remarks, President Putin emphasized that President Prabowo’s visit holds significant importance in strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries amid current global dynamics.
“We see that Your Excellency’s visit carries great meaning and importance, particularly in the current global situation and developments, as well as in enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sector,” said President Putin.
President Putin noted that relations between Indonesia and Russia continue to develop consistently and are becoming increasingly substantive, particularly following the agreement on a strategic partnership declaration between the two countries in 2025.
“I am very pleased that we are undertaking steps that bring substantial meaning and depth to the relationship between our two countries,” he said.
Furthermore, President Putin highlighted the progress in economic and trade cooperation, which remains one of the key pillars of bilateral relations. According to him, trade between Indonesia and Russia has increased significantly, reaching 12 percent.
“At the beginning of this year, we observed a slight slowdown in bilateral trade, but we have various ways to enhance it. We attach great importance to the intergovernmental joint commission, and we hope that during today’s meeting, Your Excellency, we will be able to explore various solutions to further strengthen our partnership,” he continued.
On that occasion, President Putin reaffirmed that both countries continue to prioritize strengthening cooperation across several strategic sectors considered vital to bilateral relations. He noted that numerous opportunities for expanding cooperation have been intensively discussed by both sides.
“Among others, we are discussing cooperation in energy, space, agriculture, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals. We also place great importance on developing cooperation in the humanitarian field, including education,” President Putin said.
In addition, President Putin highlighted the close coordination between the foreign ministries of both countries in various international forums. Concluding his remarks, he stated that Indonesia’s membership in BRICS opens broader new opportunities for strategic collaboration, including with the Eurasian Economic Union.
“Indonesia has become a member of BRICS, and this opens new opportunities for developing our cooperation. The same applies to cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union,” he concluded.
This meeting underscores the strong commitment of Indonesia and Russia to move forward not only as bilateral partners, but also as a collaborative force in promoting global stability and progress.
