Digital Transformation: Shaping the Future Generation of Leaders

Kadin Indonesia and the International University of Japan (IUJ) organised a sharing session with the theme ‘Digital Transformation: Shaping the Future Generation of Leaders’ (11/7/2024). This discussion is an important endeavour to bridge the gap between academic insights and industry practices, creating a strong platform for knowledge exchange and strategic development.

In an era of rapid technological advancement, digital transformation has become a crucial element for the success and sustainability of organisations across various sectors. The integration of digital technologies into all aspects of business operations has become a necessity to remain competitive and relevant.

This transformation is fundamentally changing the way companies, industries and businesses operate, thus requiring leaders who are not only adept at managing digital tools but also visionary in leveraging technology to drive innovation and growth.

In Indonesia, the business and industrial landscape is undergoing a deep transformation fuelled by digital technology. According to a report from McKinsey, Indonesia has the potential to gain USD 150 billion in economic benefits from digital transformation by 2025, spanning sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and services. This digital revolution presents both opportunities and challenges, requiring a new type of leader who is not not only skilled in leveraging technology but also able to guide their organisations through the complexities of digital transformation.
hanya terampil dalam memanfaatkan teknologi tetapi juga mampu memandu organisasi mereka melalui kompleksitas transformasi digital.

Studies from Deloitte show that the main challenges in digital transformation in Indonesia are uneven technology infrastructure, lack of digital skills in the workforce, and resistance to organisational culture change. However, great opportunities are also seen in improved operational efficiency, broader market penetration, and product and service innovation.

According to a report from the World Bank, Indonesia has more than 175 million internet users by 2023, indicating a significant increase in the accessibility and use of digital technology.

According to Harvard Business Review, effective digital leaders must have skills in change management, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams through a clear digital vision. In addition, a study from PwC revealed that 77% of CEOs in Indonesia plan to increase investment in digital skills training for their employees in the next three years.
