BritCham Partners with Kadin to Encourage ESG Integration in Indonesia

As one of the many collaborative events to celebrate 75 years of trade relations between the UK and Indonesia. One of BritCham Indonesia's HUBs, the Smart Sustainable Cities HUB, recently successfully organised an event focused on integrating ESG practices into corporate strategy.

The event discussed the challenges and opportunities for stakeholders and leaders from the public, private, and academic sectors regarding ESG implementation in Indonesia.

In her remarks, Vice Chair of Kadin Indonesia for Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs, Shinta Kamdani said that according to the results of a survey of 2000 companies, 35% of respondents have understood the principles of ESG. While the rest, do not understand ESG and still need guidance on proper ESG practices, especially in achieving Net-Zero goals.

With the support of the Kadin Net Zero Hub, this event examined the roles of the government in supporting companies to undertake ESG practices and also examined the relationship between ESG and Net-Zero initiatives.

As one of the government representatives, Dr Hariyanto said that the government emphasised the importance of collaboration between the private sector or stakeholders and ministries to achieve ESG goals.

"This effort is one of the keys to driving sustainable development and ensuring a more prosperous future for everyone," he said.
