Indonesia will once again host the 19th Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum, which will take place from 28 to 30 May 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). The organization of ITS this time carries the theme "Transformation Towards A Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility" or Transformation Towards Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility.
The Asia Pacific Intelligent Transportation System Forum showcases the latest developments in intelligent transportation systems, discusses a number of current transportation issues, including the digitization of transportation that Indonesia is developing.
Indonesia's Intelligent Transportation Roadmap Phase
The selection of the theme of the Asia Pacific Intelligent Transportation System Forum is in accordance with the road map of intelligent transportation system design in Indonesia. Indonesia's smart transportation roadmap is divided into two development phases.
The first phase, in 2021, is implementation. In this year, the steps taken are to strengthen the existing intelligent transportation system, then in 2022 the implementation of the development of an intelligent transportation system. Moving on to 2023, the implementation of intelligent transportation system infrastructure development is carried out, then in 2024 is the implementation of improving intelligent transportation system technology, and 2025 is the implementation of knitting intelligent transportation system connectivity.
Continuing to the second phase which begins in 2026 is the implementation of the alignment of the intelligent transportation system. Then in 2027 is the implementation of fostering intelligent transportation system innovation. In 2028 itself is the core future of the intelligent transportation system, and in 2029 towards autonomy. Until the peak in 2023 is the full implementation of autonomy.
IKN Pioneer Smart Transportation City
The Asia Pacific Intelligent Transportation System Forum will also discuss the concept of smart cities and integrated and sustainable intelligent transportation systems. The Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) will be a pioneer of smart transportation-based cities in the world. The government plans to build smart, integrated and environmentally friendly transportation in IKN, including: Autonomous Rail Transit (ART), flying taxis, and unmanned buses. The operation of intelligent transportation systems is no longer handled by conventional operators but through the application of traffic control systems.
The Minister of Transportation added that the implementation of Indonesia's intelligent transportation system is also in line with the government's vision towards Golden Indonesia in 2045 to realize a reduction in greenhouse gas emission intensity and achieve net zero emission.
Smart Transportation System for Traffic Control
Indonesia has implemented smart transportation system through Area Traffic Control System (ATCS). ATCS is an implementation of intelligent transportation systems in traffic transportation, with a traffic control system in an area based on information technology aimed at optimizing road network performance through optimization and coordination of traffic light settings at each intersection.
Several cities in Java, Sumatra, and Bali have implemented ATCS at several intersections. The implementation of ATCS is still constrained by traffic input that still uses manual data and is not yet in real time traffic conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop ATCS technology using Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
This ATMS implementation provides benefits and functions as a variable message sign. In the form of electronic traffic signs that are often used on highways to provide information to travelers about special events and current traffic flow. Another benefit is as a detector, which is a system for monitoring and counting the number of passing vehicles that can be distinguished by type and size. This ATMS can also serve as a device to announce special events or traffic delays and warn travelers of traffic rule violations, it also serves as a Traffic Signal, which is to control the phase and duration of traffic signals and enable priority for priority vehicles.
Information from this advanced traffic management system can be accessed in real time through social media, as well as other digital applications that allow electronic traffic law enforcement to be carried out, and the schedule monitoring and tracking of mass transportation used by the public such as the Teman Bus can be known in real time, as well as other important information that can also be obtained in real time.
Digitalization of other transportation systems was also showcased at the event, such as electronic payment systems, and the implementation of digitalization of more advanced public transportation systems.
Momentum for the Revival of Modern Transportation in Indonesia
In the 19th ITS APF event in 2024, in addition to holding various scientific discussions on smart and sustainable transportation, there are also demonstrations and exhibitions of the latest transportation technology, namely developments related to smart transportation, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles and digital evolution in transportation.
The forum will also launch the Jakarta Initiative on Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Mobility. This is a collaboration between domestic business stakeholders represented by Kadin Indonesia, transportation associations represented by ITS Indonesia and ITS Asia Pacific, as well as a global civil society alliance represented by the 5P Global Movement.
This forum should be a momentum for transportation stakeholders in Indonesia to continue to transform for the better.
