Jakarta's Next Governor Must be Business Savvy

Since it is no longer the capital city, Jakarta is encouraged to become a Global City and World Business City. Therefore, the future leader of Jakarta must have competence and great efforts to achieve its target.

As is known, on 27 November 2024 there will be simultaneous regional elections. This regional democratic party is starting to be felt, including in the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ), including the expectations of the business community for the Governor-elect later.

"The future Governor-Deputy Governor of DK Jakarta must have sensitivity in business and economy," said Chairperson of the Jakarta Special Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Diana Dewi (15/8/2024).

For Diana, Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta Province (DKJ Law) clearly mandates that Jakarta will be projected to become a Global City.

"One of the parameters of a Global City is a strong economy. So, if Jakarta's future leaders do not have sensitivity, are not innovative, and do not have the courage to make economic breakthroughs, then Jakarta as a Global City will only be a discourse that will be difficult to realise," said Diana.

According to her, both central and regional governments have a big role, including synergising with the business world.

"As a government partner, Kadin DK Jakarta is determined to accelerate towards the Global City. The same spirit must be possessed by the future Governor-Governor of DK Jakarta," said Diana Dewi.

We hope, she continued, that the Governor-Vice Governor of DK Jakarta has full power and gaspol to boost Jakarta's economy so that regional original income (PAD) will increase, even though it is no longer the capital city of the country.

"Jakarta must be led by an innovator who is 'extreme' and has big guts. Because only then, breakthrough after breakthrough can be made in order to achieve common goals," concluded Diana.
