Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan officially launched Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2024 with the theme "Discover Indonesian Modest Fashion Excellence", on Friday (23/6/2023).
The main event of JMFW 2024 will be held on 19-21 October 2023 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, to coincide with the Trade Expo Indonesia event. Previously, JMFW had been successfully held since 2021.
JMFW is an event to showcase the best Muslim fashion (modest fashion) in Indonesia and is expected to become a barometer and trend for Muslim modest fashion in the world.
Also present at the JMFW 2024 Launching event was Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Trade, Juan Permata Adoe. Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan accompanied by the Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi.
"Through JMFW 2024, we want to invite all parties and of course international buyers to see first-hand the extraordinary Indonesian modest fashion, both in terms of design, the diversity of patterns, as well as the colors and culture behind it," said Zulkifli.
In addition, holding this year's JMFW is one of the government's priority programs in accordance with President Joko Widodo's mandate to develop Indonesian modest fashion on the global stage.
"Apart from that, this activity is expected to be a networking event for cooperation between the modest fashion industry and related industries at home and abroad, and of course with international buyers," added Zulkifli.
According to the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, the vision to realize Indonesia as one of the world's modest fashion barometers can be achieved more quickly if it is carried out together and supported by stakeholders.
Apart from Kadin Indonesia, the Ministry of Trade also cooperates with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy; Ministry of Education, Research Culture and Technology; businessmen; academics, as well as the media to collaborate.
The Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan also revealed that modest fashion products are one of the industrial sectors that the government has focused on to encourage exports and strengthen the industry.
In 2022, modest fashion products will contribute 3.5 percent of Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports. In that year, exports of Indonesian modest fashion products grew 12.6 percent compared to 2021.
The export trend of modest fashion products for the past five years (2018-2022) has also recorded a positive 2.6 percent. In addition, world modest fashion consumption is projected to increase by 6.1 percent in five years to reach USD 375 billion in 2025.
On the same occasion, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Trade, Juan Permata Adoe said, the modest fashion industry has a multiplier effect in advancing other industries such as the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and herbal medicine industries. He also hopes that JMFW can continue to be held every year.
“Currently, modest fashion in Indonesia is ranked 5th. We have to improve this again. In addition, it is hoped that this activity will continue every year because we believe this activity will have a positive impact on other industries," said Juan.
At the peak event, JMFW 2024 will feature a series of activities such as trunk shows, trade shows and business matching.
The launch of JMFW 2024 was enlivened by a fashion parade featuring the work of 10 designers, namely Lisa Fitria, Danjyo Hiyoji, Kami., Buttonscarves, Nada Puspita, Aldrie, Artkea Bloom, Kursien Karzai, Brilianto, and Ayu Dyah Andari.
Previously, JMFW 2023 featured 144 designers/brands with more than 1,000 collections. The implementation of JMFW 2023 managed to record trade transactions of around IDR 206.6 billion from 16 countries including Malaysia, Spain, Yemen, Portugal and Nigeria.
JMFW 2023 presents attractive performances including presentations on modest fashion trends by Uniqlo, fashion shows featuring the work of 26 young designers from 10 educational units, as well as fashion shows from national brands.
Last year JMFW also presented Miss Grand International from 68 countries to demonstrate modest fashion by Indonesian designers.
