Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Indonesia, in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) and the Institute for Sustainability and Agility, held the ESG Governance Kadin-GAPPS International Awards at Menara Kadin Indonesia, South Jakarta, on Thursday (25/06/2026).

The event serves as an appreciation for companies that have demonstrated tangible commitment and excellent practices in implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria within their business environments. Beyond acting as an accolade, the event also functions as a platform for learning, benchmarking, and strengthening ESG governance in Indonesia.

Shinta W. Kamdani, Kadin Indonesia’s Deputy Chairperson (WKU) Coordinator for Human Development, Culture, and Sustainable Development, stated that this award is more than just a ceremony; it is part of an effort to encourage companies to gain a deeper understanding of ESG.

"ESG is about how a company makes decisions, manages risks and opportunities, creates an impact on society, and builds sustainable shared value for the business," Shinta said.

Shinta explained that this year’s awards featured two main categories: Governance of ESG and Project Management of ESG Initiatives. These two aspects are deeply interconnected, as robust ESG governance ensures sustainability is integrated into corporate strategy, leadership, risk management, and accountability. Meanwhile, sound project management ensures that various ESG initiatives can be implemented effectively and yield measurable impacts.

Shinta added that the awards were presented across three achievement levels: Best ESG Governance Excellence, Achievement, and Commitment. This structure reflects the belief that sustainability is a journey that requires a commitment to continuous learning and growth.

“We hope to see even more companies participate in the coming years. The more companies involved, the stronger Indonesia's ESG ecosystem will become. We want more Indonesian companies to be able to compete not only nationally, but also on the global stage,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Elim Sritaba, Kadin Indonesia’s Deputy Chairperson (WKU) for Sustainable Business and Governance, stated that ESG implementation must become a core foundation for the business community, particularly for Kadin members. This aligns with Kadin's role in supporting the national economic growth targets set by the government.

"We are discussing what can drive this forward because we know business players have ambitious targets and must also be capable of penetrating international markets,” she said.

On the same occasion, Maria R. Nindita Radyati, Chairperson of the Permanent Committee for ESG Governance at Kadin Indonesia and Head of the ESG Governance Kadin–GAPPS International Awards Organizing Committee, explained that technological innovation emerged as an interesting finding within the ESG Governance category.

She noted that several companies have utilized information technology to build ESG dashboards that enable real-time monitoring of sustainability performance.

“In governance, many companies are innovating by using technology for ESG dashboards, allowing them to monitor sustainability performance at any time. With this system, companies can immediately see how their ESG performance is faring, including feedback or complaints from the public, consumers, and employees,” Maria explained.

Furthermore, Tony M. Simmonds, Finance Director of GAPPS, expressed his positive impressions regarding the development of ESG practices in Indonesia. Based on the judging process, he assessed that Indonesian companies have demonstrated a strong commitment to ESG and sustainability.

“What we found during the judging process is that Indonesian companies are very focused on ESG and sustainability. I even think Australia can learn a lot from Indonesian companies and how they execute these initiatives,” he concluded.
