Bandar Lampung – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), in collaboration with the National Food Agency (Bapanas), held a Cheap Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah) in Kedamaian Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung City, on Friday, September 12, 2025.
This initiative is part of the 57th Anniversary of Kadin Indonesia, which will be celebrated on September 24, 2025. As part of the celebration, the Cheap Food Movement will be held across 38 provinces. So far, the initiative has been implemented in Southeast Sulawesi and Lampung Provinces.
Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, stated that the program not only aims to support communities but also to empower micro-enterprises, as most of the participating vendors are MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
“The affordable market operation is one of the ways Kadin, together with Bapanas, ensures that people have access to affordable food, while also supporting MSMEs and driving the national economy,” said Anindya, who is familiarly known as Anin.
“We’ve seen for ourselves that the most in-demand staple goods are rice, cooking oil, eggs, and sugar,” Anin added.
Anin also emphasized that the Cheap Food Movement is a tangible example of the integration between upstream and downstream sectors within the national food ecosystem.
“This initiative not only aims to stabilize consumer prices but also ensures fair prices at the farmer and livestock producer levels. It represents real integration across the national food supply chain,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Chairman of Kadin Lampung Province, Muhammad Kadafi, highlighted that Kadin is committed to supporting the smooth implementation of central government programs, including the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) initiative.
“We want to ensure that the public can access affordable food. Hopefully, this can help sustain the community’s economy in the post-Covid era. The people's economy is a cornerstone of Indonesia's overall economic strength. May the care shown by business actors help propel the nation toward its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision,” he said.
The Cheap Food Movement is a strategic effort to maintain national food availability and affordability while also helping curb regional inflation. Various essential food items were offered at prices lower than market rates, including rice, cooking oil, eggs, flour, meat, chilies, onions, and fruits.
One of the most popular items was a discounted staple goods package priced at Rp88,000, which was quickly snapped up by local residents. The package included premium rice, cooking oil, and granulated sugar.
Other basic commodities were also offered at very affordable prices, including shallots at Rp17,500 (500 grams), garlic at Rp15,000 (500 grams), red chilies at Rp11,000 (250 grams), and curly chilies at Rp8,000 (250 grams).
Also attending the event were Kadin Indonesia’s Vice Chair for Social Affairs Nita Yudi, Vice Chair for Organizational Affairs Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko, Kadin Indonesia Executive Director Pipin Moh. Saiful Arifin, and Director of Food Supply and Price Stabilization at Bapanas, Maino Dwi Hartono.
