Kadin Indonesia Promotes AI Sovereignty Through Stronger Data, Infrastructure, and Logistics Ecosystems

Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), through its Technology Transformation, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and Digitalization division, together with the Indonesian Logistics Freight Forwarding Association (ALFI) and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, held the Coffee Morning: Strategic Policy Leaders Dialogue under the theme “Building Indonesia’s Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Future: From Energy Infrastructure and Industrial Logistics Nodes to Economic Impact” at Menara Kadin Indonesia, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (September 2, 2026).

The dialogue served as a forum to discuss the development and utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting industrial transformation, including in the energy and logistics sectors, as well as to examine its impact on the national economy.

Deputy Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Technology Transformation, MSMEs, and Digitalization, Teguh Anantawikrama, said data quality is one of the key factors in AI development. According to him, AI requires high-quality data to be used effectively by both the government and the business community.

“AI cannot become intelligent if we do not feed it with information. We have to educate our machines so that they can become effective for us,” Teguh said.

Teguh explained that the government is currently pushing discussions on the One Data Law to strengthen data integration across ministries and government institutions. According to him, such integration is necessary to ensure that the data being used maintains data integrity, data security, and data sovereignty.

“Data integrity, data security, and data sovereignty are important,” Teguh said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Downstream Development of Iron and Steel Commodities, Akbar Djohan, said developments in AI and digitalization need to be accompanied by human resource readiness and connectivity across the logistics ecosystem. According to him, the logistics sector is broadly interconnected, meaning that technological transformation must take into account the entire ecosystem, encompassing both physical infrastructure and human resources.

“Logistics cannot stand alone; it has an ecosystem. We are discussing how to establish connectivity across the entire supply chain ecosystem, from hard infrastructure to soft infrastructure,” Akbar said.

Akbar said efficiency is one of the key factors in improving the competitiveness of the national logistics industry. Therefore, digital transformation needs to go hand in hand with business and legal certainty so that technological developments can generate tangible impacts for the business community.

He also highlighted regulatory changes that, in his view, need to take into account the characteristics of each industry. According to him, not every business process needs to be strictly regulated, as some sectors can implement self-regulation mechanisms.

“Not every industry needs to be regulated. Not all of them; there are also self-regulatory mechanisms, as Mr. Teguh mentioned earlier,” Akbar said.

Akbar added that regulatory harmonization needs to involve industry players to ensure that policies do not create high economic costs or undermine competitiveness.

“We hope that Kadin Indonesia can continue to convey input from the business community to the government, particularly regarding the impact of regulations on conditions on the ground,” he concluded.
