Kadin Promotes Digital Sovereignty Through Support for the Data Center Industry

Bekasi - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, attended the launch of JK6 Data Center entitled ‘Digital Downstreaming through World Class Nation Data Center’ owned by PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCII) at MM2100 Industrial Estate DCI H1 Campus, Cibitung, Bekasi, West Java, Tuesday (03/06/2025).

Also attending the event were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid, and DCII President Director Otto Toto Sugiri.

Anindya Novyan Bakrie, or Anin as he is affectionately known, stressed the importance of the data centre's role in encouraging national digital downstreaming.

‘Great, this is just the inauguration of the 36 megawatt phase. DCI's total capacity is 119 megawatts, contributing 40% to the national data centre capacity. I think this is very good,’ said Anin.

According to Anin, the development of data centres such as JK6 is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia's digital downstream. Anin also emphasises the importance of national digital sovereignty.

‘I see this is really an effort of the nation's children, 100% locally owned, but in terms of quality it is not inferior to global players. Data infrastructure is a data centre. I congratulate DCII. Hopefully it can improve not only digital security, but also digital sovereignty, Indonesia's digital authority,’ said Anin.

Responding to the role of data in trade and industrial cooperation, Anin said there are two principles that Kadin always holds, namely strategic and intelligent.

‘Strategic means that whatever we do, we have to think about strategic industry or trade. But it must also be intelligent, not just human intelligence, but also machine intelligence, such as AI. The centre of all this is the data centre,’ Anin explained.

Anin also emphasised the importance of maintaining data security, especially when overseas data is stored domestically.

‘If possible, more and more foreign data is stored in Indonesia. But of course, the security must be guaranteed because data has high confidentiality,’ she added.

Furthermore, on the same occasion, Minister of Komdigi RI Meutya Hafid stated that JK6 is one of the largest data centres in Indonesia, with a capacity of 36 megawatts that has been officially recorded at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

‘This data centre is not just a physical building. Behind it is a national collective spirit. We appreciate the JK6 construction process which involved more than 3 million man-hours and nearly 8,000 Indonesian workers,’ said Meutya.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasised the importance of his ministry's new nomenclature, which now explicitly includes communication and digital fields.

‘This shows a new chapter, a milestone that we must step on together so that we can jump far ahead. Infrastructure must now be orchestrated as a whole, including physical and human development,’ said AHY.

Furthermore, DCII President Commissioner Otto Toto Sugiri said that of Indonesia's 280 million population, 220 million are connected to the internet.

This makes data centres a crucial infrastructure in the digital economy.

‘Starting from financial transactions, public services, daily communication, to vital company systems, everything now relies on data centres. The national data centre market has the potential to grow rapidly from the current capacity, which has only reached 300 megawatts,’ said Otto.

For information, JK6 is the latest facility from DCI Indonesia, the largest data centre service provider in Indonesia and the largest single data centre building in the country in terms of capacity.
