Jakarta – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Switzerland, I Ngurah Swajaya, at The Convergence Indonesia, Epicentrum, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday (July 27, 2026). The meeting focused on strengthening Indonesia–Switzerland economic cooperation, covering trade, investment, technology development, and human capital capacity building in global trade.
Anindya, popularly known as Anin, said Switzerland is a strategic partner that can serve as a valuable benchmark for Indonesia—not only as one of the world's leading financial centers but also for its excellence in technology development and branding.
“Switzerland is not only a global financial powerhouse, but it is also internationally recognized for its technological advancement and branding capabilities. This is precisely why Indonesia should strengthen its cooperation with Switzerland. Moreover, we have had our own Free Trade Agreement (FTA) for about four years now,” Anin said.
Anin noted that bilateral trade has continued to perform positively, with Indonesia recording an annual trade surplus of approximately US$2.5 billion. He therefore emphasized the need to pursue more concrete areas of cooperation.
“Our first priority is to learn how to enhance and modernize our trading capabilities, which is why we are proposing a Trading Academy. The second priority is logistics, complemented by efforts to encourage investment in the shipping and port sectors,” he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland I Ngurah Swajaya expressed his appreciation for Kadin Indonesia's support in advancing economic relations between the two countries.
“We truly appreciate the strong support and positive response from Kadin Indonesia in our efforts to further strengthen economic cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland,” he said.
He explained that trade between Indonesia and Switzerland continues to grow steadily, while Indonesia has also become an increasingly attractive investment destination for Swiss companies. Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of encouraging investment from Swiss small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those specializing in technology, innovation, and low-carbon solutions.
“I informed the Chairman that one area deserving greater attention is investment by Swiss small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those that are technology-based, innovation-driven, and focused on low-carbon development,” he said.
Beyond investment, Ngurah Swajaya noted that Switzerland serves as one of the world's largest global commodity trading hubs. Indonesia, he said, aims not only to leverage this opportunity to expand commodity exports but also to strengthen the capabilities of Indonesian businesses through education and training in global commodity trading.
“The Chairman has kindly agreed that during his visit to Geneva he will meet with stakeholders there to discuss not only ways to increase Indonesia's commodity exports, but also how education and capacity building can better prepare us to compete within the global commodity trading ecosystem,” he added.
On the same occasion, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia's Switzerland and Liechtenstein Bilateral Committee, Francis Wanandi, expressed his appreciation for the Chairman's commitment to strengthening relations with Switzerland.
“I would like to thank the Chairman for his strong attention to Switzerland, which we believe can provide significant added value for Indonesia. We hope that closer cooperation between our two countries will further support the private sector in expanding and strengthening Indonesia's industries,” Francis concluded.
