Kadin Indonesia and Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia Agree to Support MBG Programme

Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Novyan Bakrie, together with Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce China Committee (KIKT) Garibaldi ‘Boy’ Thohir, attended the Indonesia-China Business Reception 2025 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (24/05/2025).

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Kadin Indonesia and China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI) in Indonesia.

The MoU was signed by Anindya Novyan Bakrie as Chairman of Kadin Indonesia and Sun Shangbin as Chairman of CCCI.

This MoU marks the joint commitment of both parties to deepen strategic cooperation across sectors, strengthen synergies, and open new investment opportunities in Indonesia-China business relations.

Anindya Novyan Bakrie or Anin as he is affectionately called emphasised that the cooperation between Kadin Indonesia and CCCI will be focused on various sectors, especially trade and investment.

‘Mr Boy and I, both from Kadin and KIKT, agreed to support the government's programme, MBG, Free Nutritious Food. This is interesting because the amount is large, 80 million packages for children and pregnant women that will be served every day,’ Anin said.

Anin explained that Kadin and CCCI plan to support the programme through various channels, ranging from the provision of kitchens or Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), protein and carbohydrate distribution, to modernisation of the agricultural industry and genomic sequencing.

‘We will make the SPPG prototype before 17 August 2025. Later, it will be handed over to parties who will build the kitchen, most likely close to their investment areas, such as East Halmahera, Sulawesi, or Kalimantan,’ said Anin.

In addition, Anin also highlighted the importance of strengthening the long-standing Indonesia-China bilateral relationship.

‘Indonesia-China trade reaches US$130 billion a year, making China Indonesia's largest trading partner. This is an opportunity to increase investment and create jobs,’ said Anin.

Anin added that good relations between the two countries will also facilitate the licensing and funding process.

‘When relations are good, licences are certainly easier, and funding will be more accessible. For sure, we want more investment to boost the economy and create jobs,’ said Anin.

Meanwhile, KIKT Chairman Boy Thohir added that the event featured 30 leaders from Chinese companies who met directly with Indonesian entrepreneurs.

‘Business matching like this makes entrepreneurs see how the two leaders relate. When both leaders are present, Mr Anindya (Anin) and I will be excited,’ said Boy.

Boy Thohir also explained that there were eight industrial clusters featured in the event, illustrating the vast potential for cooperation.

‘There are AI robots, fast trains, aircraft, downstream, health, education, and other technologies. This shows the seriousness of the two countries in strengthening economic cooperation and people-to-people diplomacy,’ said Boy.

For information, the Indonesia-China Business Reception 2025 was attended by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang.

Meanwhile, the signing of the MoU between Kadin Indonesia and CCCI aims to build a strategic and institutional framework that encourages:

  1. Increased bilateral trade and investment flows between Indonesia and China;
  2. Institutional engagement to support private sector development;
  3. Practical mechanisms for business collaboration, information sharing, and policy support;
  4. Participation in joint initiatives aligned with the broader diplomatic and economic relations of the two countries.
