Barito Kuala – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of South Kalimantan (Kalsel) continues to strengthen its commitment to overseeing inclusive and sustainable regional economic growth. During a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held at Pawon Tlogo, Handil Bakti, Barito Kuala Regency on Wednesday (January 28, 2026), Kadin highlighted two primary strategic issues: emerging economic opportunities through government programs and the mitigation of ecological disasters.
The Chairperson of Kadin South Kalimantan, Shinta Laksmi Dewi, emphasized that the FGD was designed as a collaborative platform to map out the province's economic projections for 2026 while seeking concrete solutions to the environmental challenges that frequently affect the region.
Optimism Amidst New Strategic Programs
In her presentation, Shinta Laksmi Dewi expressed optimism regarding South Kalimantan's economic resilience. She noted that alongside the rapid development of the infrastructure sector, national strategic programs—such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) initiative—have emerged as a new force capable of driving the local economy.
"We see significant opportunities for economic growth this year. Beyond infrastructure, the MBG sector has become a highly potential driver for the regional economy," Dewi explained.
According to Dewi, the MBG program is more than just a social initiative; it carries a broad multiplier effect. It is predicted to absorb local food commodities, empower MSMEs in the catering sector, and boost logistics services in South Kalimantan, ultimately increasing capital circulation at the grassroots level.
Synergizing Economy and Ecology
Beyond discussing financial opportunities, the FGD underscored the importance of development that does not sacrifice the environment. Given South Kalimantan’s vulnerability to hydrometeorological challenges, spatial planning and environmental aspects were key topics of discussion.
The event featured competent speakers from various disciplines to provide a holistic perspective, including: Adhi Maulana, Head of Environmental Management, South Kalimantan Environmental Office, Yunani, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Lambung Mangkurat University, Raden Rafiq Sepdian, Executive Director of WALHI South Kalimantan and Akbar Rahman, Spatial Planning Observer for South Kalimantan.
The presence of these experts is expected to produce policy briefs for the regional government, ensuring that investment and economic growth in 2026 go hand-in-hand with environmental conservation to prevent future ecological disasters.
"Kadin South Kalimantan will continue to play an active role in ensuring that the province's economic growth moves toward becoming more resilient, robust, and sustainable," Dewi concluded.
