Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) has expressed its respect for the ongoing legal process involving members of the Kadin Banten Provincial Chapter, and fully supports the legal action taken by the Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten). While upholding the presumption of innocence, Kadin Indonesia has decided to temporarily suspend the three individuals from their positions pending a legally binding court decision.
“We regret the actions taken by members of the Cilegon City Kadin board and support the legal measures undertaken by the Banten Police,” said Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie on Friday evening, May 16, 2025, following news of the arrest of Cilegon Kadin officials.
Internally, Kadin has taken firm disciplinary steps by suspending the board members involved in the alleged intimidation and extortion case.
The incident in question occurred on Friday, May 9, 2025, when the three individuals visited the office of PT Chengda, the main contractor for the Chlor Alkali-Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) plant project owned by PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), a subsidiary of PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk. During what was initially described as a discussion, the suspects reportedly exerted pressure and made coercive demands—an act that has since been perceived as intimidation and attempted extortion.
“We deeply regret this incident, as it has caused unnecessary public disruption,” Anindya added.
According to reports, on Friday, May 16, 2025, the Banten Regional Police named three suspects in the case: individuals with the initials MS and IA (both members of the Cilegon City Kadin Board), and RZ (an official from the Indonesian Fishermen Association/Himpunan Nelayan Seluruh Indonesia).
The three are accused of demanding a share of the CAA factory construction project, allegedly under the pretense of promises previously made, which has now escalated into a criminal investigation for attempted project extortion.
Kadin Indonesia reiterated its commitment to integrity, good governance, and ethical conduct, stating that any actions violating these principles will not be tolerated, regardless of position.
