Kadin Papua Promotes People-Based Agribusiness, Koperasi Bina Mandiri Papua Harvests 30 Tons of Corn

JayapuraKoperasi Bina Mandiri Papua successfully held a National Corn Harvest in Kampung Sanggaria, Arso 1, Keerom Regency, Papua Province, on Wednesday (30/04/2026).

The harvest serves as clear evidence of the growing productivity of the agricultural sector in Papua Province while also reaffirming the region’s readiness to support national food security through the empowerment of local communities.

From a 6-hectare plantation area, Koperasi Bina Mandiri Papua managed to harvest approximately 30 tons of corn, equivalent to a productivity rate of 5 tons per hectare. This achievement is considered a positive outcome of collaboration among cooperatives, farmers, the regional government, and the business community through the Papua Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Papua) in advancing agribusiness development in Papua.

Chairwoman of Kadin Papua, Jacleana Joku, emphasized that the success was not merely about the harvest yield, but also reflected the strong synergy between cooperatives, farmers, and the business sector.

She explained that Koperasi Bina Mandiri Papua is directly fostered by Kadin Papua as part of efforts to strengthen a sustainable people-based economic ecosystem.

“We are committed to continuously assisting and strengthening the capacity of cooperatives and farmers so they can increase production while also improving community welfare in a sustainable manner,” said Jacleana.

According to her, the successful corn harvest is expected to become a momentum for expanding agribusiness development in Papua while also strengthening regional food independence so that the province will no longer depend on supplies from outside the region.

Going forward, Kadin Papua together with Koperasi Bina Mandiri Papua plans to expand farmer assistance and capacity-building programs to various other regions across Papua.

Meanwhile, Governor of Papua Province, Mathius Derek Fakhiri, appreciated the success of the harvest as a positive indicator of increasing agricultural productivity in Keerom Regency, which has long been projected as one of Papua’s major food production centers.

“Papua must become self-sufficient in fulfilling its own food needs,” he concluded.
