President Prabowo Highlights BRICS’ Collective Strength to Strengthen Global Governance

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto said BRICS has an important role to play in strengthening collective capacity to contribute to global resilience. President Prabowo made the statement while attending a restricted session titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Republic of India, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

“BRICS represents half of all humanity and a significant share of the global economy and global trade. BRICS brings together the world’s largest markets and major energy producers. This gives us tremendous collective strength,” the Head of State said.

President Prabowo emphasized BRICS’ collective strength as an important asset for strengthening global governance, ensuring food and energy security, and creating greater development opportunities for developing countries. According to the Head of State, mobilizing resources for infrastructure and economic development can enhance the Global South’s capacity to finance its own future.

“BRICS has a role to play by strengthening our own capacity to contribute to global resilience. By mobilizing resources for infrastructure and development, we can strengthen the capacity of the Global South to finance its own future,” the Head of State said.

President Prabowo also said that this collective strength could be further optimized through stronger connectivity among the markets, capital, resources, technology, and knowledge of BRICS countries. He noted that such connectivity could create greater opportunities for developing countries while strengthening the voice of the Global South in shaping the institutions that govern the world, protecting and promoting peace, and advancing justice.

“Imagine what BRICS could achieve if this strength were fully mobilized to help ensure food and energy supplies. Imagine if our markets, capital, resources, technology, and knowledge were better connected, creating greater opportunities for developing countries,” President Prabowo added in his statement.

Furthermore, the Head of State emphasized the importance of building a stronger multilateral system capable of supporting the needs and interests of all countries, whether large or small, strong or weak. In this context, President Prabowo said the United Nations (UN) must remain at the center of the multilateral system, but with reforms to make it more representative, responsive, and capable of delivering concrete results for people around the world.

“The UN must be more representative, more responsive, and better able to deliver concrete results for our people. At the same time, our international financial institutions must also evolve. Trade and currencies must not be weaponized,” President Prabowo concluded.

By strengthening BRICS and reforming global governance, President Prabowo called for a fairer and more equal international order—a system that not only recognizes the strength of the Global South, but also provides all nations with the space to determine and finance their own futures.
