Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, welcomed the launch of the France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council (FI-HLBC) as a strategic step toward strengthening economic ties between Indonesia and France, while accelerating investment and trade realization between the two countries.
The high-level business council was officially launched on Thursday (May 28, 2026), in the presence of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, as part of President Prabowo’s official state visit to France.
“The establishment of the France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council marks an important milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between our two countries. This forum will not only serve as a platform for dialogue among business leaders, but also as a driving force to promote investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that deliver tangible benefits to both nations,” Rosan said in a statement on Friday (May 29, 2026).
The business forum brought together 30 leaders from prominent industries and companies in Indonesia and France, representing a combined market capitalization of approximately US$1.3 trillion. The council is jointly chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of the France–Indonesia Business Council at MEDEF International and Chief Executive Officer of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia).
Rosan revealed that the launch of the business council also resulted in four new commercial agreements worth US$3.5 billion, focusing on energy security, trade, and defense cooperation.
“Confidence among French businesses in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreements reached demonstrate that Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate,” Rosan said.
According to Rosan, the business council will also play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of various memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and investment commitments that have been agreed upon previously. During President Macron’s state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, a total of 27 MoUs valued at more than US$11 billion were signed.
“Equally important is ensuring that all of these commitments are translated into concrete outcomes. Therefore, this forum will serve as a mechanism to identify obstacles, accelerate the resolution of challenges, and ensure that investments are implemented effectively,” he added.
The France–Indonesia Business Council has set a target of tripling bilateral trade by 2035. With the full support of the governments of Indonesia and France, Kadin Indonesia and MEDEF International will continue strengthening the bilateral economic corridor to unlock new opportunities for cooperation across various strategic sectors.
“We are optimistic that economic relations between Indonesia and France will continue to grow stronger. Collaboration between governments and the business community is key to fostering sustainable growth, creating jobs, and enhancing the competitiveness of both countries amid an increasingly dynamic global economy,” Rosan concluded.
