To Ease Protests, Anindya Bakrie Urges Kadin Officials to Strengthen Communication

Jakarta - In response to the political and security conditions over the past week, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, urged Kadin officials across Indonesia to help maintain a secure and conducive situation. This includes building communication with all stakeholders, ranging from government officials, the National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), universities, religious leaders, community figures, and democratic forces.

Protests that have begun to turn anarchic are disrupting the investment climate and hindering economic recovery. Kadin officials acknowledge that the demonstrations have harmed their businesses, and the impact will also be felt by workers, including the protesters themselves. Kadin officials are ready to assist the government in curbing anarchic demonstrations.

Internal communication within Kadin is already quite solid but must continue to be expanded to reach all stakeholders: central and regional governments, security forces, student organization leaders, and business partners.

“We must clearly communicate that the business world does not operate in the political arena, but has a strong interest in political and security stability so that trade, investment, and regional economic activities can continue to thrive and grow,” said Anin, as Anindya Novyan Bakrie is commonly known, during an online meeting with the Coordinating Vice Chairpersons (WKUK), Vice Chairpersons (WKU), heads of agencies, and the 38 provincial Kadin chairpersons (Kadinda), on Sunday (August 31, 2025).

Most Kadinda explained that they have assisted security forces in curbing anarchic demonstrations in their respective regions. In addition to engaging in dialogue, they also provided food supplies to the public through the authorities for those in need.

“This indicates that Kadin is already quite solid. We are committed to continuously strengthening our good relations with the government, while also reinforcing the internal consolidation we have undertaken in recent times (including the Retreat at the Military Academy in Magelang, August 8–10, 2025),” Anin stated.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Anin said, has shown great enthusiasm to collaborate with Kadin at the national level and is even prepared to convey support for Kadin directly to the President. This is important not only for image-building, but also to provide tangible benefits to the public, ease potential unrest on the ground, and maintain a conducive business climate, especially for MSMEs, which are the backbone of the national economy.

Anin outlined four main focuses for Kadin in helping to curb anarchic protests. First, strengthening communication. Internal communication within Kadin is already quite strong, but it must be continuously expanded to all stakeholders, including central and regional governments, security forces, student organization leaders, and business partners.

“We must clearly communicate that the business world does not operate in the political arena, but has a strong interest in political and security stability so that trade, investment, and regional economies continue to grow,” Anin explained.

Second, conveying positive signals that the government’s ongoing programs are important for improving public welfare. Kadin must be present in society to communicate positive narratives. Among others, Kadin supports food distribution programs and affordable food initiatives in accordance with the MoU with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Kadin's focus is not just on maintaining good relations, but on ensuring that basic food supplies are accessible to those in need, while also demonstrating the business community's readiness to support government initiatives.

Third, concrete short-term actions. Inputs from Kadin officials regarding logistics, inflation, and the distribution of essential goods will be followed up promptly. Kadin is assisting with the smooth distribution of rice, which is currently facing obstacles. Kadin also supports regional governments in increasing locally generated revenue (PAD), improving cash flow, and creating business opportunities through close cooperation with local authorities and business players.

Fourth, strengthening the role of the business sector. Kadin bears a major responsibility for 80% of the national economy. The global and domestic challenges currently being faced are a momentum for Kadin to take on a bigger role.

“We must encourage the government to view the business sector as a key partner in job creation, inflation control, and driving the national economy,” Anin emphasized.

“I realize that the issues we are facing are not simple and will not be resolved in the near future. However, history has proven that Indonesia always emerges as a stronger nation after facing great challenges. Let us carry a spirit of optimism in every step we take, while continuing to maintain strong communication and cooperation between the central and regional levels,” Anin concluded
